In T1 and T2 Garrett is the greatest thief the world has never seen, who is shrouded in mystery and silence etc, and can pass a City Watch officer in the street without them blinking an eye, yet by the time of T3 every City Watch officer and Hammerite knows him by sight. How did it get to that? :)

Just wait until you play Thief 4, when he gets caught at the end of every mission.

On point, my friend. On point.

Quite interesting indeed! A plot hole perhaps? Too bad certain people arent here anymore, they would surely be pointed to...
In my limited experience with Deadly Shadow, I played through to where the enforcer things were everywhere in the streets, I turned it off at that point, I do not recall anywhere an explanation as to why Garrett is so suddenly well known...
jtr7 !!!!!
:(
Again, unless any of the resident "t3 xspurts" can clarify this, I would say nice find indeed! ;)

Why? Didn't you want to find out what happened?

I think it's worth pointing out that this isn't something that just started happening in T3 - throughout most of T2 (if not all of it) all of the Watch Officers on the street recognise Garrett on sight. I guess we have to assume that a description of him was circulated at some point, probably around the time Sherriff Truart badly wanted to bring him in.

The only time I can remember any AI calling Garrett by name in the first two games was by the Downwinders in Thieve's Guild. Could just be my faulty memory though.

Yeah, I think that is one of the only times he gets called by name. I was more referring to the point about about Garrett being able to walk by a Watch Officer in the street without blinking an eye, which I'm pretty sure is something that only happens in T1. After that, he's always recognised as a thief.
Now that you mention it, I'm not sure if they specifically realise he's Garrett in T2 or just a random thief; I always assumed they knew it was Garrett because no one seemed to bother him when they saw him in T1 (so his outfit isn't the giveaway), and given that in T2 they were tracking him to the point where they even knew where he lived and were bashing down his door, it seemed to make sense.

There is a moment in Strange Bedfellows when you come across the Hammers and one immediately says 'oh it's you' and then enlists your help and while doing so indicates further he knows who you are. But it looks like the turning point may have been Ambush in T2.

Very true. When I play though, in my head I always think he recognises me as that novice who set the alarm off the other day and sprinted out the door with the earth talisman :laff: (as I usually have a conga line of hammerites following me at the end of Undercover....not very Master Thief like :p)
