True, some FMs outshine all of T2X missions, and even most OMs, but on the other hand, FMs are usually standalone (or in a packs of 2-3 missions), whereas originals along with T2X are over 10 missions each. So while the quality might be not as high, there's just simply more content. And good content at that.
I don't like to compare standalone T2X missions to other standalone FMs, that just doesn't seem right to me. Comapring the project as a whole is a different thing.

On the other hand, a mission doesn't equal a mission. I just checked and apparently, a Mission X replay on just lowest took me about 1/3 of the time I spent on the whole 10+ T2x campaign replay and more than double the time I spent on the longest T2x mission. Sensut's Bathory spans "only" seven missions but some of them are gigantic. So smaller sets can bear the same danger for their developers as apparently longer sets do.
Granted, playing time is not everything, a mission can be shorter thanks to great design & thus flow compared to a rather mediocre mission with nonsensical puzzles, stretching the mission. Yet I picked Mission X since it does everything right in this aspect, if I recall correctly.
Then there is also the question whether to take prequels, like "Omnious Bequest" into consideration with the "Broken Triad" release way later and to force them into a campaign...
Then of course, times are changing, like taking NewDark into consideration.

It's been so long since I've played, but the one mission that really stood out to me was The Cure. Just a really awesome, creepy, Haunted Cathedral type mission.
Down Among Dead Men was good too.
(Can you tell I like undead missions?)

No, I couldn't really tell. Thanks for clarifying it, though

I hate to be the one to bring this up, but Zaya is quite hot too...

The cutscenes are rough in terms of character animation, but show great work in sets, atmosphere and general cinematography. The Thief-style black-and-white-still-picture type briefings are well done and convincingly authentic-looking.
I think I'd go so far as to call the first one "a bit shit" in terms of character animation, they get less bad though :)
Given the technology and budget available I think they're not bad even compared to the sort of thing typical of commercial games of the time.

I just played Down Among Dead Men and is spooky as hell. The zombie groans are hideous, and when I returned to the tower and listened to the Haunts die, it was the biggest scare I've experienced in recent times.

Yes, T2X was great. :)
It's rare that such an epic fan-project, involving (
http://www.thief2x.com/credits/) so many different creators doesn't just collapse under it's own weight, but comes together into such a beautiful, coherent end-product.

It's equally amazing that a fan project of this size didn't collapse under the weight of its own Garrett x ??? ships
