Does it work?
I've had a look at the technical help bits and its not mentioned specifically.
From what I've read these days I'll need Thief 2. Taffpatch and NewDark?
Does anyone know?

I believe it works fine. Just make sure you either install the steam thief 2 outside a protected area if you're on Vista or above (i.e. not in Program Files) or move / copy the directory to somewhere else.
The latest Tafferpatcher includes NewDark so you don't have to install it separately.

Hmmm.
Why do I need Thief 2 to be a different directory?
Steam has installed it in the Steam folder, despite me telling it to install in C/Thief.
It works fine with Tafferpatch but T2X is giving me an error about video hardware :(

if I remember correctly, you will need to either install NewDark into the T2x folder, or run T2x as FM via FMselect.

I installed Thief 2 in Steam, where Steam wanted it.
I patched it with Tafferpatch, which now included NewDark.
Thief 2 works fine through steam, though at 1080p res its not very smooth.
T2X was installed into the Thief 2 folder.
T2X shortcut gives an error about video hardware.
I copied the entire Thief 2 folder to C/thief_2.
T2X appears to work from that folder; it starts, the intro plays and I could start the first level.
Who knows from here though...
