Hi all,
Just getting back into things thief-wise and thought I'd install T2X again (great expansion by the way, played it back when it was new...) Unfortunately I can't get it to work.
I can hear the first tiny tiny bit of noise from the opening movie then it crashes. Thief Gold & Thief 2 work just fine, movies and everything. Here is the windows crash output:

This is on Windows Vista 64-bit.
I am using ddfix, but copied ddfix.ini as I was supposed to... The T2X movies play just fine in WMP and register 'codec installed' in g-spot codec appliance. Anyone had similar problems?

Thief2x uses a different codec than Thief Gold and Thief2 use. There have been reports of that codec malfunctioning before.
The codec installer can be found in the "\t2x\codec\" folder.
However, there have been reports of the k-lite codec pack fixing things, and there have been reports of it breaking things. If the latter is the case (ie you've got the k-lite pack installed) it could be that changing some settings could solve your issue.

A small request:
could you try to document your actions and perhaps write up what settings need to be changed so we can add it to our FAQ? All we got now is the somewhat vague description of 'puttering around with the settings of ffdshow'.
This, of course, if this issue is indeed the cause of your trouble.

Guess I should have mentioned... I've already gone into ffdshow settings (audio + video) and set overrides for thief2.exe, which some people in the past have mentioned as working. Those crashes all seemed to hinge around LGVID.AX though, mine is crashing in thief2.exe. (You can set overrides for ffdshow in the decoder settings app, under "DirectShow control")
The codec is properly installed, it plays fine through either the proper codec or ffdshow in Windows Media Player. (also without K-Lite the movies in Thief1/2 don't work anymore :P )

OK, I'd really really like to be able to play this but things aren't going well so far :(
I did a 100% fresh install of Thief2, no ddfix, no widescreen patch, no cracked exe. Still no workie. Got rid of k-lite/ffdshow. Still no workie. I even disabled video playing and it still crashes the same way, so it isn't related to the videos.
Thief 2 original still works perfectly.
Help! :erm:
EDIT: Last thing before I shut up... usually I can figure these things out on my own but this one just has me stumped... I ran it through a debugger and the error it seems to spit out right before crash/burning is 'ERROR_SXS_KEY_NOT_FOUND' which really doesn't make any sense... right?

It could be a bad download. Have you tried re-downloading it?
mudi on 19/6/2009 at 05:42
Just did. Checked MD5 sum this time, etc. The download is good, still crashes. Just for fun I even tried replacing intro.avi with the one from stock Thief2, still crashy. I just can't figure this one out!
Anyone else running T2X on Vista 64-bit?

Sorry for bump, but IT FINALLY WORKS!
All I did was reinstall all my Thief games to a non-"Program Files" directory (made a c:\Game Files) that my account has 'Full Control' permissions on. For some reason Full Control permissions of just the T2X folder wasn't enough :nono: But this has solved problems with a lot of games, and it works for T2X. :thumb:
