We debated whether that was too unintuitive a path, but (obviously) left it in.

That's just one of those areas that will tend to force a player in a certain direction and then the player will forget about it after a while. If the door opened to the left it would tend to steer them towards the roof. As is it opens right and steers the player towards the crematory. But that's the beauty and challenge of Thief. You have to stay on your toes and keep good mental notes so you can find everything.

That's a pretty astute observation coming from an old fart, Scott.

That loft door was probably the smartest use of occlusion in FM history. It stumped me for a while (after the crematorium/morgue). I think I actually needed a hint--to close a door!

I haven't played Thief in a about 2 or 3 years, (too busy). For the heck of it I decided to check the forums and see what was new and saw this whole business about v1.19. What luck! I downloaded Rose Cottage pretty much at random and just finished it.
I can't say enough about how amazing and professional it is. I can't imagine the amount of work that goes into something like this. I don't ever get tired of the vibe of the Thief universe and as far as I'm concerned I could play levels using the dark engine forever.
I have hundreds more missions to look forward to when I get the chance. Maybe I'll design a level someday but Dromed seems kind of intimidating.
I just had to say great work everyone involved with Rose Cottage and v1.19! :thumb:

If I repeat every single word Triamalese said, I wouldn't be lying at all. What a nice way to come back to Thief after a couple of years (also due to 1.19 hype!). I believe everything that had to be said was said, nevertheless: thank you, Saturnine, for this!

BobtheKeeper - Yes, the victrola should be frobbable and it should turn on and off alternately when you frob it. Or maybe Saturnine disabled that in the final version and forgot to remove the music file? I don't remember. But at one point I had it working that way.
Well, that's a pity, since the choice of music would have been
very appropriate. Not only that
THAT particular fragment of Beethoven's third was something fitting to, errr, everything, but also the introduction of a funeral march in a symphony was very unconventional at that time - this would have emphasized even more the originality and uniqueness of this level.

That's very nice! I had to ask about the rocking horse.

Sorry to say, my link to the "RC T2 FM - INTRO MOVIE only" Mirror was killed just now:

Dave...tell them it's OK. You got permission for the music.
