um, mentioning that about the attic door outside of spoilers is pretty messed up ya know!
here you are ranting on about what you percieve to be the FMs pro and cons, and then you right out and spoil one of the good parts!
and quote:
"things moving around or reapparing in front of you have been done (and dare I say better) before." -
dude - go ahead - tell us where has been better????
i for one have had nothing but pure fun from all the creepiness - and tho i just KNEW that one of those bloody dolls was gonna move on me - still it was a YIKES moment when i came back to that hallway and there it was standing in the center!
and the dress dummy "following" you - was cool too - that giggle made you know she was just playin with you - but was still creepy!

An oversight on my part, which I've now fixed.

I suggest you go and play (
http://www.thiefmissions.com/info.cgi?m=deceptiveperception) Deceptive Perception, and its sequel (
http://www.thiefmissions.com/info.cgi?m=DeceptivePerception2Phantasmagoria) Phantasmagoria. The whole point of those missions is to scare you fundamentally the same way, but (Phantasmagoria especially) is far better executed in that respect (
In my opinion).

Again, the ending of Phantasmagoria is basically this - I bet everyone who has played it saw the whole dress dummy situation happen a mile away.

Use DarkLoader.
There´s a better solution, somewhere in the mission readable write:
"game: Thief 2 TMA"
Sensut told me to do it this way, and it worked:thumb:
I´m loving this mission b.t.w. Impressive Mansion, never seen a mansion so detailed, so rich and so well worked like this one.;)

You can open the large gates leading from the top of the spiral staircase back to the house, and just lead them through that room and back to the house that way.

I was disappointed that nothing was done with the dress dummy in one of the bedrooms. Seemed like an obvious setup for something.About the ending...
The business with the dolls appearing didn't fit into the narrative at all. You had the dead thieves running around, but the dolls implied another force at work. Yet nothing came of it. We just get the Happy Disney Ending when the last spirit is defeated and... nothing. I guess the Deceptive Perception series has me spoiled.

When finished I had feeling that probably I understood main secret - that little girl was evil, she killed assistant - somehow caused his death in wine cellar, locked the door and hid the key in her attic compartment. She was spoiled in nature - this is why she picked one eye to her doll and remove the head. And this is why one doll appears to lead Garrett in actions - systematically tortured and humiliate dolls tried to reveal their mistress darkness to people. Thus haunting has double cause - one because of girl and another because of that undead gang. Do you think I'm right? :laff:
Be more serious - this real piece of art given to us, that movie and that ambient and architecture is outstanding - mansion, cemetery, cemetery crypt - I'm not sure I saw such beauty in FMs. It was so creepy first time but when I understood that nobody except haunts with transparent but regular thief skins would hurt me it is started to be like I see the horror movie second time. And there is nearly no need to hide in shadows at all... I hate missions (fortunately we get rarely) with too many undeads but there we've got too less.

I really liked the phone ringing. I ran to answer it, but it stopped just before I got there.
Would have liked to see something more there. Like, if you answered (frobbed) it, you hear a very strange something.

Please help.
I still can not open the attic door at the bottom of the stairs from inside, so the ghost can follow me. It is not frobable. I see the lock but it do not highlight so I can not open it or force it with the crowbar.
