The only thing I can think of is to try configuring DDFix with the manual install - for some reason I couldn't use the Automatic Install version when I applied DDFix and had to do the Hex Editing myself.
I can give this a try too.
Nice little program but it didn't work for me too :tsktsk:
I really think this only can be graphical matter :erg:
So is there a way to install VMWare with "another" graphic card?? In VMWare you can choose which system settings (like RAM,....) you have. Would this be possible with graphic card too??

SeriousToni: I'm not sure that it's a multi-core issue, but if you wish to try another...cure, please download and run (
http://darkfate.ru/?show=files/misc_stuff/FlipTIB_v1.0.zip) this tiny utility.
BTW, please tell us where did you get "Thief2.exe" file. It's important for us to know, because you could just download already prepatched version of exe-file without installing DDFix itself.

Don' know exactly what you mean with "where did you get your theif2.exe". I normally got the standard thief 2 version from cd and then I patched it to 1.18.
I tried the normal 1.18 patch and I tried the 1.18 premium patch (because with the normal one there are allways cd security errors), I even tried to run the game with the standard version wihtout any patch - but nothing did work for me.
Your little russian tool didn't work either - there's no way that this is a multicore problem I believe - this must be some other thing :(
But what?

Hmm... Apparently that your case is not a multi-core issue. I think something wrong with video-driver. Did you try to install its another version? BTW, what exactly version is? You know, some versions of video-drivers are not compatible with DDFix (or vice versa?), especially Vista ones.
P.S. Your graphics card is not DX10-compatible, so, IMHO, there is no need to use DDFix.

Thats my guess too.
For my NVidia GeForceGo 7300 I got the newest drivers from nvidia.com
They are version 7.15.11.7948 from 30th Januar 2009.
I had to install them because without them I wasnt able to play sims 3.
Do you believe the game would run with an older version?? I allways thought that drives must be downward compatible, mustn't they?
MoroseTroll on 23/7/2009 at 07:10
Yes, drivers should be downward compatible, but sometimes they are not :(. You see, your case is a very especial one: an old DX6-game (I mean Thief) hardcoded to work in 16-bit screen modes, a hack for this game (I mean DDFix), an operating system which is DX10-oriented (including video-drivers) by design (I mean Windows Vista). There are too many risk factors in these, too many.
Maybe you should ask somebody, who have a similar hardware/software configuration but where Thief 2 works properly, to upload from the game's directory his/her .exe-, .dll- and .cfg-files to you?
P.S. Look, did you tweak nVidia Control Panel (I mean "Quality" and "FSAA") parameters? Both of them should be "Controlled by application."

Try this:
modify "Target" in your shortcut
C:\Windows\System32\cmd.exe /C start /affinity 1 thief2.exe
to dedicate the first CPU core to the game (or "/affinity 2" for the second, and so on)
Works for SS2 and Thief 1/Gold too...if you're using darkloader just load the missions from it but do not press play. Use the shortcut you've made instead.
SeriousToni on 23/7/2009 at 20:05
No I didnt' tweak NVidias control panel options because I uninstalled it right in the beginning :)
Yeah I see I am a very special case - it's very frustrating if you are a "special problem" because mostly you REALLY want to play the game but there's no solution to find... I spend many many hours on trying to get thief 2 to work..
But if its really the hardware then there's no chance to get it to work becuase I can't change my graphics card.
I remember the times when I played this game and made my own maps.. I think I have no other chance than playing thief 2 on my old computer when I am at home some days in the month :( Here where I work the whole week I only have this laptop. And on weekend there isn't so much time to play thief or even build missions. :-/
It's a shame that the good ol' stuff doesn't work here :(

Look, you can change your Windows on your laptop by downgrading it from Vista to XP or even 2000. Yes, I know that there are some people can handle with similar situation like yours, but seems that other people cannot. This is not your fault, this is just bad luck. Well, besides the downgrading (Vista->XP/2000) you might try to use some virtual machines like DOSBox or something, but this process can be diffucult, quirky enough and even fruitless.
