Good evening, day and morning to all you thieves :)
I was sitting here the whole day trying to get my thief 2 to run on my computer, but none of the tricks worked for me.
I tried all... compatibility mode, using just one CPU in the task manager fpr the thief2 process, ddfix for nvidia graphic cards ((

Everytime after the video for the first mission my game just hangs in a black screen :(
What possibilities do I have besides the ones written above in my post?
I've got
WIndows Vista SP1
Turion TL52 CPU
Nvidia GeforceGo 7300 (Drivers Vers. 7)
Hope someone replys - I am despairing =(

This is where the FAQ could use updating. Unfortunately it only says:

Game Stops Responding (Hangs) or Quits Unexpectedly When Introductory Video Clip Is Played.
If you are running Windows XP with Service Pack 1 applied you may want to check out (
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;327979)
this page at Microsoft, which includes an update that has reportedly fixed video problems with the Thief games.
I don't know what it means for Vista. Did you undo your Compatibility settings?

er guys, DDfix applies the multi core fix... why hasnt this been considered or am I missing something here..
jtr7 on 18/7/2009 at 22:22
DDFix was applied.

Thanks for the first comments.
I already applied the DDfix.
I installed the indeo video codec from the Thief 2 CD.
None helped :(

Indeed I did. Once with the windows task manager and then with the imagecfg file. None did help.
The only thing I noticed on this method was that there's only a thief2.exe in my running processes and not a thief2.icd like in the text on this site. I don't know why.
I don't believe this is a multithreading error though.. Because if it would be one, than the game would crash at different times/events and not right in the beginning everytime.. Don't know - I believe it's graphical issue.. :(
Hope we can find a solution.

Too bad, I really don't know then.

The only thing I can think of is to try configuring DDFix with the manual install - for some reason I couldn't use the Automatic Install version when I applied DDFix and had to do the Hex Editing myself.
