At one point I had Thief 2 multiplayer working and it was amazing fun, now after a fresh OS install of both 32 and 64 bit Windows 7 on two different drives (just in case this was an issue)- I can't get past errors or find a very detailed set of installation instructions for this multiplayer (I've even read somewhere you have to patch the game >again< after installing the MP files), in fact it defeats my memory how I got it working in the first place.
I'm not using Steam for Thief 2, I'm using the sold out copy (v1.07), I use taffer patcher (latest build) over the top of that (to take the install to 1.18) and then the multiplayer files are extracted/installed over the top of that.
Issues:
"MSVCP71.dll missing" error pops up, but the game screen loads and is playable...
But I can't get the multiplayer console window to pop up when tabbing.
Can someone help me please? it would be greatly appreciated!

that MSVCP error is due to a Microsoft product not being installed on your machine I believe. I think it's related to Visual C++ Redistributable. I'm also pretty sure that's an old version.
In any case, you can do a google search for that dll and download it. Just be careful where you download it and if you're unsure about it do a anti-malware/virus scan on the file after downloading it. Then, once you have that file just drop it into your thief folder. Or, if you would rather, you can do a search for Microsoft Visual C++ redistributable and download the latest version.
Also, I would have backed up your old thief2.exe before installing the multiplayer patch. Too late now so if you need to go back you'll have to reinstall.
Also, I seem to recall that thief 2 multiplayer required some software on your computer for it to function properly. I think .Net Framework?

I talked to Tos on IM and he said he doesn't think T2MP needs .net. He said and I quote: "if the window isn't popping up it's likely not installed properly or not fuctioning at all"

The latest build of Tafferpatcher uses NewDark and would patch you to 1.21, which isn't compatible with MP.

Woops, I hadn't realized that. He wrote 1.18 in his post, but the only way that'd be correct is if he was using an old version of tafferpatcher, right? Or actually, can you choose whether to install the NewDark patch? I don't remember what happens. I used tafferpatcher a while ago.
In any case, Industrialism, if you are indeed patched to NewDark 1.21 then as Yandros says multiplayer will not work. You will need to install regular old Thief 2 1.18 for multiplayer to function.

Hey, I saw that there are cheat options in the server set up and I was wondering what those might be, such as adding a weapon or lockpicks. I started to play this with my brother, but I can't get certain fan missions with only one lockpick set or one blackjack to work for both of us. The other person just runs around doing nothing. Help?

What fan missions?
What do you mean? Your friend can't equip a blackjack or a lockpick?
As for cheats, IIRC the only thing that does is allow you to use the special /summon command (I think it was /summon, not 100% sure though) in the multiplayer console window to spawn items.

I think he means the bj and picks are in-game objects you find, so there's only 1 set. And IIRC summon is there & would be the solution. The command is in some threads here somewhere.

oh! That makes more sense.
The easiest solution is using the summon command. The hard solution would be for a Dromeder to go in and change the mission.
