I have a new (used) computer with Windson XP installed with service pack 3 and I just reinstalled T2 and when I start a mission I get a black screen. I've reviewed some of the fixes but can't get the thing to work. I even tried running the program through GarrettLoader. I've had it working on XP before on a laptop but I can't figure out what will make it work. Help!

Man, that's one big file! I'll give it a shot.

Tried the patch and the game wouldn't even start after that. I uninstalled the patch.

System Info:

Intel Core 2 Duo CPU

2.99 GHz 1.97 GB RAM
Maybe that will help with suggestions

I tried uninstalling T2 and then followed the patch instructions and reinstalled the game via Tafferpatcher but now I get an error message that says the configuration is not correct when I try to start the game.
Maybe it's time to pack it in and give up on Thief.

This:
---------------------------
C:\Program Files\Thief2\thief2.exe
This application has failed to start because the application configuration is incorrect. Reinstalling the application may fix this problem.

What's your install.cfg and darkinst.cfg look like?
Also, what video card do you have, and have you tried updating its drivers?

I don't even know if there is a separate video card in the computer other than what comes on the motherboard. I got the computer for free from my work.
The wierd thing is that I have Microsoft Train Simulator installed and it works perfectly.
I installed Visual studio and now I get this error: ---------------------------
Error
---------------------------
Unable to locate or load d3dx9_43.dll
