that will be your problem: auto-search does not frob the loot; it just transfers it from being contained by the AI to being contained by the player. since the loot object will get a Contained message when the player picks it up, whether by frobbing or by auto-search, your mission should be triggering off that. since youre already using NVScript, you probably just need to replace StdButton on the loot items with (
https://www.thiefmissions.com/scripts/NVScript.html#NVTrigContained) NVTrigContained.
Thanks for helping provide information for the fix for this, vfig. Another entry to add to my list of future fixes on this mission!

I'm down to the last couple tasks:
* rescuing the captain
* retrieving the dark stone of darkness
I know where each of these is, I just can't figure out how.
How do I defeat/evade the dolls?
How do I navigate the dark creepy hallways?

You don't save Downwinder. You get the vault key off of his body. Pre version 1.1, I mistakenly had the dolls able to be killed, this is no longer the case. So just get the key and run and try to hop around the dolls to get back to the mirror. Some players on this thread wanted to retrieve Downwinder's body just for fun but that is not the point of that area. The point is to get the key for the vault. There is a note in the guard barracks about how Captain Downwinder may have the vault key on him since it went missing when he "quit"/disappeared, so that is the clue that you need to find the Captain to get the key...then you learn from Sarnia that she sealed Captain Downwinder in one of her mirrors.
For stone of darkness, it's not much of a maze, it's just kind of scary. Turn up your gamma up some if you can't make out where you are going. If you are stuck or lost, let me know where...
I'll try to explain
- go straight until the path splits, go right (should see torture chamber on right), take left down next hall, you wil take another left across from breathing face room, take next right near clock, here you are on a loop path, get to other side and stone will be down next hall.

No need to rescue the captain, he's dead. Just take his key and RUN.
To leave the dark area just keep heading generally south whenever possible.

Haha, thanks. Managed to reply at same time. But you explained in much fewer words.

thank you Vortex85 and RippedPhreak, I got the stone and the key!
after about 3 hours I got 1/2 bonus objectives and about half the secrets, in addition to a respectable 11000 loot on normal.
there were a few tough spots (particularly the wind maze), but everything else flowed pretty intuitively.
we've seen some narcissistic nobles before, but who has a gift shop for visitors to their home?

It can be a challenge. I crept in quietly, put a moss arrow by downwinder, grab the key, and make a bee line for the door. I zig zagged back and forth as I ran, that seemed to throw them off just a bit. If you have a speed potion, that helps too. Those dark hallways, again, I crept and hid, the haunts can easily be taken out, cept for that last hallway. Again, run like hell on that last spot.

This was a very fun mission to play. It was excellent in almost every way. I got through all areas with just a bit of trouble. My only gripes is with the platform jumping as it was tuff especially with the little metal guy shooting at me and the running in the dark area. The others I made it through without an issue and with running for my life...lol. The sound room was easy as long as I crouched and snuck around. I'm amazed that this is only the 2nd mission you have done. I'm playing the first now and am looking forward to the next one.

This is a beautiful looking mission (the big castle - wow!) and the story is rather good aswell, but for the gameplay I have to say I didn´t enjoy it much. Several times I nearly dropped it and I was really glad when it ended. The darkness area for example was way too forced. If you have a speed potion then okay, but if you don´t have one cause you used it up before (like me), all you can do is try to get out as fast as you can. Not really enjoyable. Same with the light area with the metal boy and the balls shooting at you. Or the two metal guys. Too much forced combat. Good parts imo were the wind area, the fire area and the earth area. My favourite was the water area, especially with the book hinting on it.
A nice bonus objective could have been to save captain downwinder. Several times I tried to save him, but I realized he must be dead since it was just not possible. Very sorry downwinder! :D
