T2 FM: The Seven Shades of Mercury (Hammerite Imperium #1) - 20 May 2009 - by Yandros

I´ve just replayed this masterpiece. Gotta say it´s definitely in my top 5 fanmissions. Everything is just so enjoyable. Though there are alot of readables, at times it was hard to filter out what is important and what not.
Gotta say after finding my equipment, the blue, gold and purple guys are really weak:laff: the silver team is only so overpowered because they cheated and received equipment from the metal order. If shivan didn´t take all the glory for the white team, I think the black team would have won. The leader seems pretty smart with all the observation doing and cloaking the item no other team ever would have found their item. Really cool! :D
This time I also found the bonus objective and all 6 secrets :) The bonus objective disappears though after I leave the room with the dead guy sitting on his throne. Is that done on purpose? The secret still counts as 6/6 though.
Also the voice actor of shivan (and the main guy in cosas) is so damn good. Very talented! :)
I´d also love to see a continuation of this but I don´t think it will ever happen.

Unfortunately, no, the rest of the campaign was abandoned and most of the WIP missions have been circulated amongst the Dromeder community for reference and inspiration.

Ah this is really sad to hear since it is such a well-made and cool story. It´d be interesting to see more of it, but oh well, just have to replay this then again in sometime! :)

Almost all that is left of the original Hammerite Imperium campaign can be accessed via (
https://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=142387&p=2211401&viewfull=1#post2211401) this thread. The story can be reconstructed by checking the mission list there, and then reading the old mission write-ups. Basically, the campaign was about a young Hammerite, Shivan, living several decades before Garrett's time, and his journey through an important part of his life, where he begins to seriously question his beliefs. This is connected to the downfall of the Order of the Hammer, which once had much more power than in Garrett's time, and lots of factions, too. Many of them are the player's opponents in "The Seven Shades of Mercury", which is a modified version of what would have been a mission in the campaign.
The only other mission which is complete enough to at least glimpse a bit of what could have been is the Cathedral mission ("Cathedral_demo"/"Mission 2: The Grand Cathedral of ...") in the thread I linked to above. The architecture of the cathedral, in which a Hammerite is murdered and Shivan is tasked with finding out who did it, is preserved, but any other things are missing from that Cathedral map.
There are some other mission remnants, but they're all without textures, IIRC, and without AI or readables anyway.
There also was a partially completed mission, "Heart of Stone", discovered later on, but I checked: It was abandoned by its author, who then offered it to the Hammerite Imperium development team, but all file dates in the mission are from before the time of offering. Thus, the HI developers apparently did not do anything with the mission. It also does not fit any description I found in the old mission write-ups either. Apparently, it does not really belong to the HI campaign.
P.S.: I just saw that I already wrote some of this in summer. Strange, I do not remember it. Apparently, I'm getting old.:tsktsk:

Thanks for the detailed infos! :) The story and shivans character are so interesting, it´s really sad not to see more of it/him. They´d even make great material for a movie:angel:

In starting this mission, it felt so familiar, but as I went along, I remembered nothing to indicate that I had played this before. But I had. Searching through, I found a comment that I left back in 2009 under the handle Brass Rose, which is how my wife logged on.
So, let me quote what I wrote then. It is still applicable (except for the Thief 4 stuff)

I feel compelled to praise the extraordinary architectural and textural beauty of this mission.
The incredible amount of work that must have gone into it shows in its gorgeousness.
As always, I kowtow to those who take so much time and put in so much effort to give the rest of us lowly taffers such a freakin' good time!!
I hope to high heaven that the Eidos Montreal team working on Thief 4 is examining all of the fantastic fan mods, like this one, that have been produced over the years and taking notes on how to do the Thief experience the RIGHT WAY.
On the replay, I am still blown away by the astounding professionalism exhibited herein. Such a shame that the project could not continue; but for unpaid creators, the amount of work involved to realize the extremely ambitious plan would have been prohibitive.
As it stands, it is a monument to a grand idea which simply could not be continued.
My final comment: Wowowowowowowowowow!!!

Nice piece of mission, I'm enjoing this.
I have a question: I know that music on this one is from A. Tolonen, but seriously want to know wich one is played when you see the map or main menus. Love that music.
Thanks
