No. You can finish the mission without having the letter. It's just a bonus objective.

Real sorry to hear you're having so much trouble with this one,
tafferjim - haven't played version b (yet), so don't know if any locations changed, but:
Blue Gem -
basement under the prison tower, it should just be sitting on a shelf in a storeroom. Use in the s-e tower (top-right on the map).Red Gem -
Use this in the s-w tower (the one in the bottom-right corner of the map) in the room immediately under the roof. Have a good look around after using it: it's not real obvious that you've 'moved'.Yep, thnks. Passed it two time, while it looked like
some cheap pottery thing...you see often :erm:
Aldo i enjoy this mission there are several keypoints bad employed.
The gems; first you do not even know that you must look for them, so missing the white one is quite possible. All gems in general; it is a pity that these important objects are "hidden" in such silly places.
Those thinks should atleast be locked, that's what i should do. In fancy boxes, so you know there is some important stuff to be found, instead of missing them (see my blue gem remark) while they look like a normal object.
The atmosphere: in some area's i feel it is too dark. Too dark in general
The Music: poor, hearing the wind all the time is getting on my nerfs and in the fortress it's not much better.
The Storyline: Beside the gem issue i think there are more "gaps"; like after you have the four stones.
So you open the gate, go to that door....then what? Did i miss a clue ?
Must be in
the book in the lib with the hidden switch. The switch, i could not find while examining ALL the bookshelves! Some people make a art of hiding switches, i know. I will go back...sigh.
And when it has nothing to do with
that book, how do you figure out opening that big door ? Just some luck ?
See, these kind of things put me, and i gues, others too, off.
The Fortress; interiour wise it is quite boring. Some fancy rooms with fancy furniture have stone on the floor; i mean; the hallways are better of with carpet ! LOL
Courtyard? bland
Gem area;s ? empty and bland
Now, i know the makers have put alot of effort into this and they did some nice stuff, like the gem thing and the time-portal. The thing is, it all aint too well executed into the game and into the story.
Just my 2 cents
Game score 7.5 Overall :cheeky:

I think I'm missing something really basic. I've stumbled across the
green, blue, and white gems (I think I found
the white one first, then the green, then the blue... does the order one finds them matter? If so, how are we to know that?) I've gotten a bit of loot (about 2000), but I haven't found Larius.
I cannot seem to
"use" the gems; they don't respond to right-clicking, and they cannot be dropped. Maybe when I find the
red gem, they'll all become usable?
I need a juicy hint for finding
the red gem and getting into the southern courtyard. Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Dafydd
in every tower, on the first floor there is ladder, climb that up towards the room above it. There you must use the stones, except the white one. That White one you use in the big round tower.Quote Posted by cavador_8
Yeah, I've read that in the posts here but it's not making sense to me. I'm not sure where the SW and SE towers are. I know where the round tower is
where the white gem is located but I have no idea how to reach the SW and SE towers. Also, it seems like I have been all over the place but I never saw a bathroom with dead fish.
You have six towers in total, the towers you are NOT looking for are those parralel to the front gate. Cant make it easier said then that ;)
Own issue: i see why i cannot end part 1; i still need 142 gold :( (why o why, now you are forced to go all the castle over again, hoping to find something you missed).
Someone sais you do not need this Lib secret, but it surely would help you to get that 5000 loot:
LC Jar
20
LC Jar
20
LC Tapestry
150
LC Canopic Jar
75
LC Jar
20
So, where is that %^#$& switch :(
oke, another 200 gold found, one hidden behind well, you never looked for it there. Terrible. Now, made my way into the city.... quite spooky and quite.... blue. Sorry, too blue to make it look beautifull.
Anyway, i talk with woman, 1000 loot. Oke, lets loot some....wtf, 90% of this village doors are fakes ? oke, two doors will open, the milky bar and the house next to it, another door stay locked, my tools wont help there and i seen a nice postbox...locked too. Right, 670 or so gold found...what next ?
Oh well, maybe i can pick some guards, who knows. Are wonder around in the dessert and hope to find some precious stones. Honestly cannot say i enjoy this very much, wundering around for miles and miles dor some lousy coin. Rather do some houses, with guards and/or pissed owners. Old scool, i know ;)

I couldn't find a place to mantle up on the fourth ledge, so I took a different route.
I crossed the skinny ledge near the tree and went through the cave. Thanks, Aspirin.Could not get up there either, after zillion tries. Hate these impossible jumps, not good for my morale and more encouraging me to wipe this FM form my harddrive.
Gonna try that tiny ledge you speak of later, at that small tree you mean? then to the right....oke Must say i am glad Looking Glass did not went this route. This Thief engine does not look pretty with large landscapes so i am glad they took the "urban" city road.
Problem i have with this FM is not only the loose ends at the beginning, but a bigger issue lies in the fact that there a long periods you hardly have anything to do and then suddenly, you get alot to do and often in a frustating way. The distances to "rewards", little bonusses are too long for me and so it winds up in a boring, long walk from a to b, then the "fun" starts. However, the fun given isn't enough to satisfy my hunger.
Take that
tomb stone key for example, it just lies there, somewhere in a meaningless building. Then you have to figure out on your own, you can use it
there at the zombies. No book, no clues, nada.
The
magic flame on the other hand, thats oke, like a bit is revealed in the book/notes.
then there is the impossible hidden secrets, sometimes you never see a switch or so, you just try at some "suspicious" texture and prey. I know, it is a secret..but ala, how far do you go ?
Till the point the player strafe every inch of your map, just to not miss any secret/clue whatever ?
Otoh are the stones just lyijng somewhere, for you to pick up. Easy does it. Weird.
Played Rowena's "the seven sisters" before this and i must say; they do not compare in quality. That FM was hard too, but in different way; more enjoyable and less frustating.
Just hope i finish this FM one day, because right now; i am fed up with it

I'm playing mission #2 on "Hard", but don't know how to end it. I've completed all the objectives
Have the mirror and the 4 tablets except for "Find a Comfy Inn to Sleep in". I thought this would be the Milky bar, but it is not. Where should I go to end the mission?
EDIT: Nevermind, I found it.
2nd floor of house next to the bar! . BTW Pyhsm, the name placard on that house is blank -- at least in the v1.0 of the mission.
Any idea how to get there, because i cannot find a entrance
Tried the roof legt from the door..and then futher up..nope, balcony...nothing. At the back, on the bif fat wall, nada. HOW?
Emply name plates doesn't help you find anything either :erg:

If I remember correctly its the building that when you leave the bar is on the right! The door and blank sign should be at the far end! Hope this helps! :thumb:

I am stuck in mission 2. I have the mirror and 4 pieces of code Logically they should be the solution to get back but I have tried every combination to no avail. Can someone post the code so I can get back Having to use trial and error as the only solution is really frustrating.

I finally found it.
It is the sequence of codes and how they are stored in your inventory. Starting with your compass cylce through the codes and enter them accordingly.
