Originally posted by TheNightTerror Just an update, the last time I played this FM I was hit with the exploding barrel thing again, but I found a workaround. If anyone else has this happen, shoot the barrel with a water arrow. When I did that I was able to put the barrel down without being dismembered by the explosion. Hope this helps someone! :)
Ah, this is a new one! :D
Anyway, if you go as far as possible so that you have to lean left to see the barrel, you can shoot the arrow without being hurt. ;)

What he meant to say was that in earlier play, he would move the barrel and it would explode when he put it down. No arrow, no attempt to blow it up. He just picked it up and put it down. When he put it down it would explode in his face before he could move.

Oooops you're right, I missed that particular.
It happened to me too. Maybe the right thing to do is to crouch before putting it down.:erm:
Or maybe id depends of how many times you put it down on your way to the
dungeon
in order to open doors? I don't really know, sorry.
TheNightTerror on 3/3/2004 at 09:42
Hmmm, I'm not sure that the amount of times you put it down counts. The time I put down the barrel to open every single door on the way there, I was still able to put it down in the dungeon so long as it wasn't too close to the door, and then nudge it until it was close enough. The next time, I left all the doors open, and when I put it down just once was the time it blew up.
I think what's doing it is the barrel's probably getting too close to a torch en route. If I remember right the room's lit with torches, so it could be possible that's what's happening. Kinda makes sense. Walk into room, bump into torch, gently put down barrel, causing a not so gentle dismembering explosion. But a water arrow seems to help, at least.

Please help me....going crazy...nearly 5 hours of game time, plus reading every thread on Rowena.
1. I have all four element keys
2. I've been in every room and read every diary\scroll.
3.
I found the secret book in the library, with a papyrus in the sliding panel, which mentions a key to hell, but there is no key with it.
WHERE THE HECK IS THE SWORD? IS THAT WHAT IS HOLDING ME UP, AND WHERE IS THE KEY THAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN IN THE SECRET PLACE IN THE LIBRARY? WHERE SHOULD I USE THE ELEMENT KEYS?
Please dont tell me to keep trying.....I have and I must be stupid or missing something. This is a tremendous mission, but has become extremely frustrating.
theBlackman on 8/3/2004 at 20:00
This mission is somewhat circular. You need to revisit places you have been as you go through and collect the clues.
There is a SKULL in the passages below, that you entered while looking for the keys. KISS THE SKULL.
Then THINK about what you find there.
Face the gates of hell, turn right, find the plague in the wall with the skull in it. KISS the skull.
You will be in room with 4 rocks standing against the walls. Once you get the first part of the puzzle solved, be ready to move rapidly around the room for an inspection. DO A SAVE DO A SAVE DO A SAVE. This one can, and will kill you if you err. It may take you a run or two to figure it out.
If you have played TDP or GOLD, your memories should clue you for this.
Pay very close attention to what you will read. Make sure you consider the ramifications of the message.
As for the library: there is a button on the lamp over the desk. This opens a secret door. Inside the next room is a safe. Once you have the safe open, turn to the right and follow the room as far right as you can. Crouch and crawl out into the chapel.
Good Luck. :ebil:

I'm not sure, but it almost seems like you don't know there's an easier way to get through this part. Rubble can take all of the danger out of this situation. It makes sure this problem doesn't unsolve itself. Although, I can't remember where in the room I found it. It could've been rather dangerous just getting it. But I know it was around somewhere. Hopefully if Cardinal's still having trouble that should help him/her.

The Night Terror, I remember well. But a hint to look around, and to be speedy about it is not quite the same as "use this to do this". :D
I'm sure if Cardinal wants explicit directions they will say so. :)

Blackman and TheNightTerror,
Thanks for your help. I finished the mission....dont know if I was going to make it without your tips. This is obviously a tremendous work of creativity in an FM, and I did enjoy it, but in my opinion it was way too hard. I am usually pretty good at figuring out puzzles etc, but it seems a lot of this missions difficulty was in too much backtracking, too much to remember without having all the scrolls etc to re-read, and in the randomness of some of the solutions without a clue to lead you to it, at least a GOOD clue. I definitely like difficult missions, but this one seemed a bit over the edge to me. Still, all in all, hats off to Lady Rowena for leaving us with a sure classic.
