Did you
find the diary? There is a key that is also under the pillow. Did you look behind the bed? There is a switch between the headboard and the wall. You can get on the bed, lean over and Frob the switch, or jump up on the endtable, drop in the space between the wall and the bed, frob the switch then, after some effort, get back out over the end table.
I did all that already. I
found the diary and the chapel key, and I found and operated the switch for the secret tunnel.
But how does that help me to get into the red room, the garden or into the library? I think, I'm missing something obvious.

Did you went in the Chapel?
You can find the
red room key on a window sill in the Chapel
Good luck! :)

I knew it had to be obvious for nobody else had this problem.
Many thanks!! :thumb:
And before I forget it completely: A merry christmas to all of you who read this!

Hmmm. Thread's not too old I'll inject more life into it. Blue's pretty, I'm gonna use lots of blue in my post. :)
Seems way back when Goldie81 had the exact same problem I had. I was having one hell of a time with blowing out the cement wall leading to the well room when I first played the mission (which is probably among the best and actually has replayability to it :wot:) but the second time was even worse.
The problem was no matter what I did, when I put the barrell down, it blew up in my face. I had the living bejesus scared out of me the first time it happened. I wasn't shooting it with fire arrows or anything, I'd just hit the 'r' key, and the barrell would fall to my feet and blow me to smithereenies. The first time through the game I was able to drop it in the torture chamber and give it gentle nudges until it was close enough to the cement wall to blow it out, then I fired. Second time through, no matter where I put that bastard down it blew up in my face. I finally managed to do it though, I had to back up against the cemented wall, drop the explosives and run for the wall. Quite a few times some kind of second blast killed me, maybe it was rubble or something. When the second blow didn't kill me and left me with 2 hit point left (on easy) it was most definitely snack time.
Either way, it's really weird. Could maybe I have gone too close to one of the torches at some point? Or maybe put it down too many times en route? There's lotsa wise taffers and tafferettes out there, maybe someone knows . . .
Never had that particular problem Night Terror. I beta tested the mission and have since played it a number of times on all levels. I must have picked up the barrel and put it down a hundred times, in as many locations with narry a problem.

Hmmm. Must be my sometimes combustible personality or something, lol.
Hey where's that red key you use to get to
the horn
? I searched the thread, seems like either I'm blind or nobody's had trouble finding the key, they just had trouble using it.

If you have taken care of Rowena, then check out the area where her altar is very carefully. You should find a route to another level. If you do and when you get "there" check every inch of the room(s) you find there.
Specifically Drop through the hole behind the altar. In the lower level, look at the well coping very carefully.

Thanks! I had given up on finding that damned key when I decided to practice juggling zombie torsos and heads. Tried to pick one of them up when I heard a mysterious jingling that sounded like a key . . . guess the zombies really wanted to protect their key. :sly: That would explain how the first time one of them exploded the flying body parts killed Garrett too.
If there's exploding zombies in Thief Gold then I really desperately need that game . . .

Zombies tend to "explode" for any number of reasons, but whacking them with an ordinary sword, and broadheads is not the way to do it. In nearly all missions with Z's they will explode from Holy water arrows, Fire arrows, mines, flashbombs (sometimes) and a few other implements of mass destruction.
