Thanks - I didn't consider the raven news to be the telegraph office. I had looted the news first thing in the mission - but I had missed that readable on first my pass so I had never returned on my six passes around the burricks.

(b) On the compass, the long spike is pointing South.
Actually it's pointing north, but yes it's a slightly confusing compass, so I checked in Dromed and yes the long spike (with a silver tipped point) is pointing north.

That is amazing news! Thank you Christine!

Thanks fortuni. At least I know what direction I’m going in now. What I really need is a magic compass that points to missing loot. I return daily to the excellent Mission 5 (
Lord Wilson’s Party) for about an hour (for at least 8 days now) hoping that inspiration will strike. I have an 85 shortfall (75 Gold and 10 Goods) and all discipline has gone, plus Garrett has been eating sugary comfort-food in times of stress (unaware of the stealthy approach of diabetes). All schemes to learn how Christine thinks have failed and I run about like a madman hoping to magically stumble on a Gold Hammer, or something. As a last resort I’m trying the well-known
post about it and then discover it by yourself trick. :o
Before reaching madman stage I
seemingly examined every blade of grass and felt I became aware of every painting (and duplicates), the dangerous heating, the bunk-bed shortage and the endless copies of Caxton's rare Ryal Book printed in 1484 (even the guard’s writing room has a copy). I suspect Thoma dumped a load of multiple fakes on Wilson.
I’ve tried flushing the toilets so all seats are up, and flushing so all the seats are down and all I discovered was that poor Lady Wellhoffer and her husband have to share a chamber pot. Lord Ashton across the corridor meanwhile has bath/sink/flushing toilet and a roaring fire and clock. On her behalf I tried walking from her cold bedroom to the downstairs Throne Room. (It’s long way and involves some fresh air). Admittedly Lady Wellhoffer is young and able and perhaps she’ll get friendly with Ashton and use his toilet (and bath). Having said that, it seems he might have been embarrassed by Lady Lotti's suitcase contents, so perhaps not. (Disappointingly I couldn’t open her case). Wilson is clearly a bounder to treat his guests like guardsmen.
The man also seems illogical. If he doesn’t want the lamps on all the time he needs to invest in windows to let some daylight in. He complains to staff about so many things while tolerating his many clocks (25) showing 10 different times. As for the grandfather clocks (which actually do move, all 4 in time with each other) they have the strange property that when the minute hand moves by 10 minutes, the hour hand moves by one hour. To put it another way in 60 minutes, time advances by 6 hours.
In the manic desire to get loot, I killed 8 squirrels, all the beetles (I think 8) and several times hit the same raven flying overhead. But no reward from Lord Wilson although admittedly by that stage he was unconscious. To pass time, waiting for genius to strike, I placed everyone I had blackjacked (48 persons) in neat rows of seniority on the front grass, apart from Wilson who was in a line of squirrels.
Whom the gods would destroy they first make mad.
I blame lockdown. Do the two water fountains either side of the Hammer altar do anything? I have a blind spot. All secrets have been found so the 85 must surely be in easy sight. With most missions I don’t bother about 100% Loot. The fact I’ve gone over this one so critically (why are those champagne glasses with a bottle of Jim Beam?) is because I love it. As everyone has said the furnishings are exquisite. From a health and safety perspective a few windows and chimney breasts would have been nice (although not one above the other). I have no idea how much time and energy and effort have gone into creating this, but it’s a work of love, I think. Thank you Christine!!! I only recently (in the last 8 days) sadly read your (
https://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=148117&page=3&p=2367032&viewfull=1#post2367032) post of Aug 2017 about your husband’s stroke and I sincerely hope all is as well as can be for your family. All the best to you. Thank you again. It’s much appreciated. :thumb: :D

I'm writing a walkthrough with loot list atm, should be done by end of day, but probably a bit too early to post unless Christine gives her blessing, could could PM you the loot list so long as you don't share it publically.

I don't know if it will actually help me to play this mission, but I've got 32GB of RAM on its way to replace my current 4GB. I had to stop playing when I first tried it, it was just way too choppy in the outdoors area.
I didn't order it for this mission, but when I was ordering the new RAM, this mission actually came to mind. It's going to be one of the first things I try.

@fortuni That’s very kind of you. Thank you. I’ve gratefully used many of your lootlists in the past. I won’t disclose a thing.
@uncadonego For what it’s worth I have 4 GB ram and no noticeable choppiness. I’m still on Win7 Pro 64 bit. It’s a Dell Inspiron 1720 laptop with 444GB Solid State drive of which 242 GB are free. It looks like I use 4094 MB of it as additional virtual memory. Sadly that’s about the limit of my computer knowledge these days. :D
The laptop does get warm when playing certain Thief FMs including this one and I usually know it’s time for a rest when my knees get uncomfortable. :D I may need to clean the fan of packed dust.

The original/V1 had some serious lag issues, esp around the Hammerite area, but that's been entirely fixed in V2. On V1 I had the lag on a powerful desktop w/32GB so it wasn't specs related. That said, it'll likely play better/really well on the new 32GB if you can wait till it arrives, and is such a fine campaign to enjoy with Thief running its best. Of course your cpu and graphics card could affect performance too depending on what you have.

Following Dahenjo's instructions to access the vault found (
https://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=151062&p=2466488&viewfull=1#post2466488) here and that sequence doesn't work for me, everything works up to the point that
Garrett doesn't say he now got a plan and thus the bird doesn't fly out of the cage when I frob the Keeper book behind the picture nearest to the Raven.Typical, curse of the forum....again!
Found the final lever, there's another lever
beside the fire arrow emitters behind the NE painting that is exposed after the fire arrow trap has been triggered, only after you frob that lever does Garrett say ‘this is want I have been looking for' and after that does the Raven escape from his cage.
Edit: Would appear that it does not matter what order you frob the 10 items, I tried 20 different combos and they all work, Garrett saying 'This is what I have been looking for' when you frob the last item, after which the Raven escapes from his cage and opens the vault.
Items to frobRaven's cageRaven on top of west bookcase (causes explosion revealing 2 more items)Rubic cube on deskChair ,(may not need to do that as the explosion will cause the chair to swivel anyway)TelephoneLever on back of post SE standard lampLaboratory dial on top of NE bookcaseLever on top of SE bookcase Keepers book behind NW painting(after explosion)Lever behind NE painting (after explosion)As for the vault code it would appear that there isn't a code as such, all you need to do is
frob the bear to
reveal the lever in the other alcove, the
other animals seemingly are decoration only.

I play on windows 10 laptop with 4 gig ram and a hd card and had choppiness in the first version, but in this version no choppiness at all.
Fortuni I would love your walkthrough.
