Thanks for you kind words @bbb, and I'm thrilled that you enjoyed the mission!

Just finished this one. Missed a whole ton of loot (as I tend to) and only found 1 secret. The city streets felt a little too mazelike for my liking, and it was very hard to tell where was dark and where was light—so I pretty quickly gave up on sneaking past the guards and just knocked them all out. I also got stuck trying to find the library reliquary, getting confused by the hammer I had, clearly marked as 'library key', while the crypt had a hammer-shaped lock that it didn't fit. Thankfully a post in this thread cleared it up, and after going back and scouring the library for the third time, I found what I had been missing. The gallery was a delight! As the main attraction and climax of the mission, I feel like it would have benefited from being built up a little more beforehand. But it was very entertaining overall.
One thing I never figured out: what was the point of the spell circles on the floor in various places off the canal, and in the gallery? I thought they were traps, but they didn't do anything when I stepped in them.

Thanks for the feedback vfig, and glad to hear you played the mission! I agree that some of the clues were too vague, but eh, live and learn. I would disagree regarding the streets, however. I designed the map so that the streets circle back to achieve no-dead-ends wherever possible, so if you keep moving forward you will circle back near to where you started. A better map would have been beneficial, though, in this regard.
The spell circles are spots where the mysterious, invisible monster from the gallery was accidentally 'transcepted' due to a malfunction (see readable in the canal entrance to the gallery, and proprietor's journal). This same monster is also the cause of the bookseller's grisly demise, and by killing said monster the player can 'earn his sword'.. sorry ghosters :cheeky:
The mission is loaded with secrets and side objectives, so it's a game that should be played in a slower style to benefit from these, but players can also play in a more direct style. I would liked to have built up the gallery more, and also added some rooftop action, but I hit the building limits unfortunately. Thanks again for playing, and for taking the time to post your thoughts here. Always appreciated!

I did discover that towards the end, when I'd opened all the gates and ko'd all the guards; so I could get to where I needed with a little bit of trial and not much error—but I still never got a good sense of where I was or how the areas connected (except for the chapel and gallery). I think it's less the overall layout than the small squares, lots of short right-angle lanes, all the buildings very close and overhanging, and everywhere being kinda equally dimly lit.

Haha, I did that and got that message and it made no sense at all!
Because I killed it with flashbombs :D

Oh, by "build up" I meant narratively. There was the note about
the power being out and some mystery happening and then the
guard's log about the others entering via the canal and should've come out already. Apart from that, I don't recall any mention of it. Even the ubiquitous posters for not-salvador-dali didn't give me any idea what the gallery was
normally, so I was basically learning all about it only in its haunted, overrun state. It felt like some narrative connective tissue was missing. Or maybe, since I didn't exhaustively search the town, it's actually there and I just missed it?
There is also a little rooftop action in my lp, when I was trying to find a way in to the gallery and ended up out of bounds on the rooftops :cheeky:

I'm replaying this mission, but I have some difficulties. I played all difficulties, but in the captain's office the sword never shows, but I still get it into my inventory, When I try to use it, it makes the normal sound hitting someone, but it doesn't show in my hand and I can't hit with it. Furthermore there's no floating key on a pedestal in the library of the Hammerites and for the life of me, I totally forgot how to enter the Gallery. If it's the door in the water, it doesn't highlight.
Please can someone spoil me with a direct hint?!
Thank you!

That problem with the sword sounds like a bug. I hope someone else can help you with that - I can't.:(
My old notes about the mission don't say anything of a floating key in the Hammerite library, not even a non-floating one. However, Ricebug's Walkthru says that you have to
place a book on the "scriptures" engraving in the library for this key to appear. It might also not appear on all difficulty levels - I don't know.
To enter the Gallery, you have to take an indirect route. To begin with that, you have to enter the
Hammerite crypts. To do this, you have to
pray at the right spot, and then you will need
a special hammer to proceed. More on that is detailed in (
https://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=147134&p=2396176&viewfull=1#post2396176) this post, beginning with "Station North is...".

I already was in the crypt with the special hammer.
I can manage without the sword up till now, but as I remember it, should I not that door in the sewer, near the entrance of the gallery? It doesn't highlight.
Could these problems have anything to do with New Dark?
I betatested this mission and than the sword was there.

Have you updated to 1.27c? There's a bug in TFix1.27c which causes problems in several FMs—perhaps that's the issue here as well?
baeuchlein on 6/7/2020 at 22:26
I have now continued a game started in v1.3a of the mission, before T2Fix v1.27c, and later started a new one with v1.27c, and played both until I had the sword and could get to the door in the canal before the gallery, but in both cases, the sword and the door "behaved" and looked normally. Looks like the source of this bug is somewhere else, not in v1.27c.
However, the door only provides access to a few rooms in the entrance area of the gallery. To enter the part which really counts, one does have to go through the Hammerite crypts and then Station North. There is an access there to another part of the canal, and at the other end, there is the loading dock, so to speak, of the Gallery. Gloria, you can try to continue that way, but if more bugs appear, it could be better to keep savegames of this game, yet still restart it again and see whether the bug mysteriously vanishes, then.
Otherwise, I'm out of ideas, I'm afraid.:erg:

I don't have this happen with any other FM but after getting to a certain point in the game, the crashes became more and more frequent and now i'm at a loss for finding a save file that will load. :(
