Just finished this FM, and I would have to think long and hard to remember any Thief FM I've enjoyed as much, and probably much longer and harder to think of one better, if one exists at all! The architecture! GOOD GOD, MAN, THE ARCHITECTURE! So Thief1/Gold-like, complex, interconnected, interesting, deeply-immersive, gritty-and-raw, yet just plain FUN to play/climb/run around on/with! While playing this mission, there were more than a few times when I'd become so immersed in navigating the city that I forgot to save my game as frequently as I usually do, then ended up dying for some silly reason and losing a very frustrating amount of progress, thinking afterwards, WOW, did I really do all that without saving any of it! For me, that is what makes any Thief mission great; immersion; putting yourself "in the game"; doing things exactly as you would do them yourself. This mission let me do that much more than most, possibly more than any other, and I love that! I want to live in this city, walk it's streets at night, know it's people, breathe it's air and smell it's stench.... ok, maybe just visit for a little while...
I finished the main objective in less than an hour. Then, spent nearly twice that long doing nothing but looking for loot to satisfy the loot objective. If/when this happens in almost all other FMs, I become very irritated and sometimes quit the mission for good, unfinished. With this mission, however, I enjoyed the loot-hunting nearly as much, and in some cases MORE than the main objective/plot.
Very well done, Melan! Thank you so very much for making this FM!

Thank you very much for your comments, bassmanret! The perfect thing to read for Christmas. Since I set out to accomplish what you just described in your post, I can be hopeful I have succeeded with the mission. :D
Now that we are wrapping up the update/expansion on Return to the City (TDM), it is slowly time to plan the sequel (which will not be a city mission). :)

is it possible to get inside the bar (with or without Issin's Corpse, doesnt matter) without alerting the barkeeper, or must I knock him out? I'm playing on expert.
Melan on 22/3/2011 at 07:42
Yes, it is possible; it requires good timing, though. Also, you should try for the further door, since you can actually crouch and sneak behind the counter. If you are carrying Issin's corpse, it may be easier to dump him in a corner and open the door first, then return. It gives you a few precious extra seconds.

thanks a lot for your reply, Melan. I have to say that I love your mission. It is a real masterpeace.
I managed everything so far, now I'm down in the Keepers Compound. Is it possible to get downstairs? The only thing I've found were some books in the bookcase, some candles, and two or three fire arrows. Do I miss anything?

#1: You can, but you will need a lot of crates. It is not an area designed to be normally visited, though.
#2: You didn't miss anything important.

I played this mission soon after its release, but now I have played it again. I had forgotten enough of it to make the experience very enjoyable, again. Not only is the gameplay superb, the readables are also excellent. :thumb:
Great use of the "Stay out of my face, thief..." voiced line.
I have a few "can I get into this place?" questions. Some may have been answered already, but I do not plan to go and read 16 pages of posts that may or may not have the answers. :p
I have found all the loot, so my guess is that these places are only there for atmosphere and to confuse the players.
* Room with zombie and fly swarm, seen through unfrobbable gate in one of the elevator shafts.
* In Lady A´s palace, there is an unfrobbable gate with stairs going up behind it.
* Somewhat near the start is an unfrobbable gate next to the sign pointing towards 'Cragscleft'. There is what looks a long alley with some vines on a wall back there.
* At the very S. end of the water stream, there is a metal door with two planks boarding it up, way up on the wall of the side of the warehouse.
Are any of these places accessible?

Thanks for your comment, jiansonz! You cannot get into any of those places. The Cragscleft gate would have been the place where you started the level, but in the end (basically a few weeks before release), I built the northern section, which I am much, much happier about. :)
