How do I get into her house? I found the "service" door which I can't pick.
As for the tarnished key, where do I use that?
1. There are, apparently some acrobatic ways of getting into the palace posted on this thread, but the simplest way, I think, is to
do the favour asked for in the scroll at the start.2. Sorry, maybe someone else will remember exactly where to use the
tarnished key - I remember it opened more than one door & there's a scroll that gives a hint about one of those doors.
And, yeah, it's really hard to know if you've been everywhere; the safe answer would be no!
But, hopefully you can get a little further anyway. :)

Is it possible to get in the area at the beginning behind the gate at cragscleft st.?
I don't recall by heart which one the Cragscleft gate is. If it's the one
right by where you start, then yes, you can get behind it from another direction; you can find explicit spoilers earlier in this thread.
If it's the second one, by the bridge over the canal, then no, there's nothing behind it.

I got to the area mentioned in previous post with the crates....you can walk on the rooftops for a bit, but nothing else up there.
If you mean the Crate Guy's area, then there actually
is some loot there, in two separate places. One is inside his place, the other not.

Hint 1:
Right where you found the key, there's also a scroll which gives you information on where the former owner's body is. If you locate the body, that gives you a hint on what it opens. Also, the scroll has a clue about the location where it's meant to be used (near where the owner was last seen alive).Hint 2:
In the place where you find the body itself, there's a readable with more hints about where the owner was.Spoiler:
He fell into the canal near a waterfall. Maybe wherever he was going (and whatever the key opens) is near that spot. And maybe that location can be approached from several directions.Almost completely explicit spoiler:
Find a long elevator shaft near a giant spider and take the elevator down. From there, you can easily make your way to the rooms with the Really Annoying Machine Puzzle. You need to use the key there, conduct a thorough search.

Yeah it is the one to the right (cragscleft st), right before the first bridge.
It just looked like there might be something around the corners.
The place I am refering to with the crates is by the lady with the 'suicide' book/note. Up above on the ledge and across to the left. I thought I saw a post earlier mentioning that there was something else besides the stained letter up there. Guess not.

...like
several stacks of coins on the table in plain sight.
rustmite on 19/6/2009 at 16:48
for sure, but somebody metioned that you could crate up to the wall behind the table with the coins.
I did. and nada.......

Had a fantastic time ghosting on expert, finishing with around 2500 loot, and now I've gone back to knock out some people and do some heavy duty exploring.
Is it possible to get to the door high up on the warehouse side of the canal? You know, the door with boards over it.

It
may be possible to get there (this is a Melan FM after all!), but apparently there's nothing there.
uncadonego on 20/6/2009 at 07:21
No really there's nothing there, and nothing behind the doors.

God's way of telling you to get a proper computer, mate :P Frankly it's testament to Thief's age you can even get it running on there. It's like installing Thief II on a toaster.
