I think maybe I can't frob the sewer entrance because I found my own way across the river, and doing so fails the optional objective to use the Downwinder route. I restarted the mission to experiment and it let me down there no problem. Either way, I'm onto mission 2 now :D

If you cross the river without using the optional Downwinder route, the Downwinders lock up and go home. Strict guild rules, you know.

No ghosting required. It can be found
in the collapsed ruins, long before you encounter any adversaries.
The flares will help. And you can always get back there, no matter how far you've gotten.

Forced ghosting means you are not allowed to be seen at all, or the mission fails (i.e. Casing the Joint). There is no forced ghosting in this campaign.
