that did the trick. i was in the fox area trying to go through a different gate. For some reason the ai wouldn't let me go over into the correct area from the beginning of the game so i stayed away. They stayed put and kept alerting whenever i tried to move over there.
Edit Spoiler: I've been playing this fm on and off for a week so i don't remember all the notes I've read. But the one thing that stands out that I don't understand why the stolen key labelled for Davenish and security note works for Lady Miranda's residence instead of Castle Davenish ? The 2 places are no where near one another.

There are bugs with some of the keys. You can break the mission by using the wrong key in the wrong place, so be careful!

Where is the key for Lady Miranda's door? Spoiler:The key i have that works on Lady Miranda's Mansion is labelled " Letchie Stolen Key " The key comes with "Letchie's note" that ask Garrett to get information on the castle security system. When i picked up Letchie's note and Letchie's key I got a new objective to get information on the castle security system and it references Litchie's note. So, since the note and the objective talks about the security system it implies the key is for the security system in the castle. There is nothing in the note or objectives to go to Lady Miranda's Mansion. I haven't found a key, note, book or anything that talks about Lady Miranda or her Mansion. Everything in the objectives says to go to the Castle which is 2 Garrett miles away from Lady Miranda's Mansion. So is this key for the Lady Miranda's Mansion or is it for the security system in the castle ?.

Where is the key for Lady Miranda's door? Spoiler: [...]
Everything is all right. Lady Miranda's door
is really meant to be opened with Letchie's key. The reason is complicated, and Letchie's letter ist not easy to understand.
From the briefing in the readme file, we are supposed to understand that Garrett wants to meet Letchie in order to get some information about a Codex that has recently reappeared again in the area. In the mission, we find Letchie's dead body quite early on, along with the key and the letter.
In the letter, Letchie tells Garrett that he got some information about a lucrative business for himself (Letchie). He wants to steal an old book and sell it to someone. Most likely, Letchie thought that this book is the Codex Garrett is looking for, but Letchie had decided to go for that book without Garrett. So, with that letter, Letchie planned to inform Garrett about another lucrative opportunity: A treasure possibly contained in the castle of Lord Davenish. Letchie might have thought he could "offer" Garrett this treasure in exchange for the Codex payment which Letchie himself intended to get just for himself, instead of sharing with Garrett. But apparently, Letchie was murdered before dropping the letter at the rendezvous point and then moving off on his own business.
The key found with Letchie was not meant to be handed to Garrett, but instead had to do with Letchie's own business. Later on in the mission, the player is faintly hinted at a connection between Lady Miranda and what Letchie planned to do later that fateful night. If you really want to know about the connection, read the following spoiler - but you better wait until you have completed the mission. Here's the spoiler:
Either Lady Miranda or her lover (I don't remember the details anymore) was also interested in the Codex, which obviously is the book Letchie pursued. Letchie stole Lady Miranda's key because he knew there was some connection between her and the old book, and wanted to search for any hint in her home. However, the one who killed several other people knowing about the Codex also noted that Letchie was interested in the Codex now, and killed him. And that's how Garrett got Lady Miranda's key, stolen by Letchie, and all of this just because of that old book.

To me a story line is worthless when a letter sends a player in the wrong direction and there is no indication of the correct way to proceed. I read ahead on this thread and found one other player that did the same thing i did. Finding just one other player with the same problem doesn't mean much because there is no telling how many people quit the mission because it was so frustrating they didn't care to finish it anymore. I've only finished about 10% of the newdark fm's I've played for a variety of reasons - the wrong patch was the biggest reason early on. With old dark fm's i finished about 90% of the ones worth playing. I'm playing Godbreaker right now but plan on coming back to this one afterwords. Thank for clarifying the key problem.

When I played the mission quite a while ago, only the key fitting Lady Miranda's door had me puzzled for a short time. Everything else seemed to fit at first, and I thought that there would be an explanation for the Lady's key in Letchies hands later on. I did think about something more clear then, though. And when the story pieces came together some time later, I had already forgotten about the key mystery, and only remembered it again when I looked through my notes for this mission now. Looks like a weak point in the story.

I can't find the crank to the sewer bridge.
Edit: Disregard i figured it out. This FM reminds me of Tomb Raider game where you don't know which direction to go to continue on in the mission. I was having problem with mantel in the 4th gated area. Garrett was just bouncing off the walls rather than mantel them. I had to restart the game to get him stop bouncing and forgot about a jump i was trying to make into the 5th gate area.
2nd Edit: I finished it at 5 1/2 hr. Got most of the loot by accident because i was wondering around trying to figure out how to continue. It was a pretty good one nicked. I was playing a older style FM after this one and thinking, 'man this is boring compared to "Behind Closed Doors" FM I've been complaining about. I got hopelessly stuck 3 times where i had to skim though this long thread to find the answer.

Simply fantastic mission!
Great story, the architecture was superb, wonderful use of height/climbing (everyone likes to climb), lots of places to explore. It took me a long time to finish, but it was well worth the time.
My only criticism is the mission is difficult to complete without hints/help. Other than that, it was great.
Thanks to Nick for hours of very enjoyable game play.

Hmm. Only got 6080 loot, where on earth should be the remaining? I have the necklace by the rat, I have all the loot after the mask puzzle, I was at Davenish' place, I brought the rare spirits to the bar owner, I've done Master Killian and the noble's safe at the bank as well.
