I was kinda expecting something to happen since I was able to put the dirt back, but no biggie. :)
I noticed in the factory after I made the key there were two levers on the right hand side. If I pulled the lever twice Lady Miranda's key would reappear on the machine.

I thought maybe you were supposed to put the dirt back to make sure no one realized that the grave was empty.
