Yes, you broke it!
Look inside the shack near the guard. If you are talking (or typing) about the
lever that opens the gate in the canal, I've done that and made it as far West as I can go.
Can you please give me a hint on how to get to
Lord Alexander's Manor? :)

That objective hasn't appeared yet but I still need to get into the mayor's house.According to the map it should be west, but I can't get any farther than the Hammerites area with the pool.

I was about to edit my post but I figured it out. There was a lever I didn't see before which allowed me to drop down and advance further.
Thanks for helping ffox! :)
Edit: Since I broke the mission I was not able to obtain all of the loot.

I have solved all objectives except for "Who is Wallace? Who is he working for?" How do I solve that objective? I have the Drawbridge Room Key but I guess I need to solve that objective first?

You find out who Wallace is by reading a note. It's back at the small apartment where you get a key, before reaching the mansion area. Maybe you picked up the key and moved ahead but didn't read the scroll?

Cool, thanks! I found it! I must say that Short Night's Work is one of the most well designed missions I have played in years. A true classic in my opinion. Someone in this post asked about a walkthrough.

I'm sorry but have anyone some kind of walkthrough for this mission?

Just finished this FM and it took me 2 hours and 24 minutes so it was quite large and very fun to explore everywhere. I also love the classic rooftop style throughout most of the mission :cheeky:
Got 14614 out of 14989 loot so I only missed about 300. Where could it be? :erm: and 14 out of 15 secrets although most weren't too hard to find but I'm still impressed with myself :laff:

Playing through this mission again many months later, what really strikes me about it is the overall pacing and progression. Some FMs give the impression of funnelling you from one event or trigger to the next, even some set in open-ended city streets. In contrast, the flow of this mission reminds me of Half-Life 2: it feels like an actual journey, undertaken on your terms. If you want to rush through it, the mission is linear and directional enough to allow that. If you want to explore every nook and cranny for loot like an expert taffer, there's not a single corner of this mission that doesn't reward you for looking -- every little hideyhole has loot to find (that 15,000 loot total isn't all in one place!); this contributes to an endlessly rewarding experience. Not one room is superfluous. Even if some of the architecture is simplistic compared to the ludicrous high standard of the NewDark era, the layout of each area is clearly designed around exploration and gameplay.
While his FMs have consistently increased in their level of polish, bbb has been making distinctive and memorable FMs that feel like a journey since Lady Lisa's Harbour. That, as well as Three Crowns, Augustine's Revenge, Nigel's Hidden Treasure and this, are characteristically his own style, and it is one that I thoroughly enjoy. I'm excited to see what his 20th Anniversary/Thief Gold mission has to offer.
