You're being too hard on yourself! Yesterday I replayed Rocksbourg 1, and the atmosphere just blew on my face the moment I walked out of my home. I immediately wanted to take three screenshots. Although textures aren't that good as in Rocksbourg 3, it is still one of the best FMs ever made.

Thanks for your comments, glad you enjoyed them. What is your site ? I may keep an eye on it for the full reviews.
(
http://taw.duke4.net/) - Though I'll most likely notify you about them once they're up. I've got a lot on my "to do" list.

Because this thread is a little bit too long to dig through it all, I'm just gonna ask the question here:
This FM requires that custom scripts be installed in order for people to be able to complete it, a fact I did not notice until I checked in this thread, as the FM readme does not mention this. As you can guess, I am having problems delivering the Book Of Names. I (think) I have now successfully installed both the required scripts, but I still can't deliver the book.
So my question is: Do I have to restart the FM in order for the scripts to work?
DrK on 16/7/2009 at 17:04
Normally you shouldn't restart the mission, but even with the custom scripts sometimes this bug won't be solved. With some the scripts make it work, with others they do nothing. It's been months I try to understand what's going on with this book...
Btw, I discovered there were scripts made by Nameless voice. I highly doubt it would make a difference, but you could try them anyway.
Otherwise, sorry for the inconvenience :(. And if it was your last objective, consider you finished the mission.

I'll take a better look at this later tonight, but I do find it a little amusing that you make these FM's that are clearly huge, detailed efforts that are well worth playing, and yet manage to do some tiny little thing to screw things up for people. With the first two ANIR, it was the ambient sound being too loud, and with ANIR 3 it's this script thing. Oh well, perfection is overrated anyway.
But your missions are awesome, regardless of minor nuisances.

:laff: Touché
Unkillable Cat on 16/7/2009 at 22:47
Well, after having made sure I had installed both scripts. I reloaded my save game, went taffin' about a bit (even found one of the two paintings I had yet to find) and then saved the game and tried dropping off the book. That worked.
So for those that wind up in the same spot I do, install the scripts, reload your save, then leaving the area and/or saving your game again seems to do the trick.
Now to wait for ANIR 4...

Very strange.:wot:
I am not a mission author, but from what I read in the past about the scripts, I could have
sworn that they don't change anything if you reload a saved game. Usually, you have to restart a mission from the beginning if missing scripts are a problem - they're somehow saved "with" the saved games as well. (The technical explanation may be more complicated, but I think this approximation might be easier to understand for many people.)
It would be very interesting to see what happened if you do all of the above but
without installing the scripts. On the other hand, even if DrK was still interested in solving the "Book of Names bug" (I think this bug is his personal curse by now), I doubt whether that would shed any new light on it - or rather add more complications to any theory that may exist concerning this matter.
This bug seems to be a neverending story.
And concerning DrK's "non-perfectionist attitude"... well, the problems which continued to exist even after he published his missions (the sound problem in ANIR1/2 and the "Book of Names curse" in ANIR3) are problems that mysteriously appear only with some people, but not with others. It is extremely difficult to track down such bugs and possibly correct them.
I wonder which persistant bug we will meet in ANIR4, then...:ebil:

Just a few questions/notes:
-The potions, frost, stone, silence... Silence im assuming you just use if you need it in some tricky places and its not a special potion because I think i've found 2 of them.
The stone potion im not sure where to use, was i supposed to use it by the light maze where hitting the walls killed you? i just used walk instead of run there, and looking down a lot to know where i was standing.
I ended up using the stone potion on the monster at the end of the dark area, freaky damn thing! and it started coming after me again but by that time i was almost at the end, still scary as shit that it was chasing me 2nd time and im running for the finish :O
The frost potion, are you supposed to use that when youre in the fire area? i used it and the fire guy shot me and it didnt hurt me :) But im wondering if thats what it's purpose was supposed to be?
-About the couple of "elemental" orders. The fire guy, I knocked him out and picked up his body. The Earth guy, i used a flash bomb and knocked him out. What about the water guy who says some comment about intruding when you enter the water place, and there is a lectern on the platform but nothing seemingly to do there?
The vine/tree guy I killed with fire arrow.
The ice place, is there any way to wake up the frozen guy? Basically is there anything that can be done in the fire, ice, earth, vine beyond just exploring and getting loot?
-The Pram's Oil, which is like an explosive bomb, what is its purpose? I found 2 of them, im assuming its just like having a grenade.
The light arrow I never used yet and Ive been to all areas, just finished dark area. Maybe I could have killed a tree beast in the dark maze?
The dark grenade, which summons a helper, I tried it in a few places, hes very powerful actually. But was there a certain place he was intended to be used?
Thats all for now. I'm always wondering if I missed anything extra in the missions I play. I wanna discover it ALL :)

God I feel like I released this fm a week ago but I already forgot a few details about it :laff:
anyway, these potions don't have a specific purpose, they are just here to help the player if he ends up in a difficult situation. Silence to avoid making noise near AIs, stone to protect you in a fight (but makes you vulnerable to magic) and frost to protect you in a magical fight (but makes you vulnerable to physical attacks). Consider them like the invisibility or slowfall potions.

These rooms are bonuses, you don't need to visit them to complete the mission. But the tools you can find in them can help you a lot though.
The frozen guy is already dead. And even the souls can't find a way to unfrozen his body, so don't even think about it...
The water guy is a reference to the Many in system shock 2. The water you're swimming into is actually... the water guy. He turned into his own element doing experiments. So you're basically inside his body, hence the reference to the Many. And there is loot floating around in this room.

The dark grenade, which summons a helper, I tried it in a few places, hes very powerful actually. But was there a certain place he was intended to be used? The Pram's Oil is like a grenade indeed, it's a tool like a mine or whatever, but as it doesn't do much damage consider it as a tool for evasive maneuvers : you throw it at AIs feet in a fight and run away when they are taking the damages.
The light arrow is like an overpowered fire arrow, particulary efficient against undead. If you're overwhelmed in a fight against strong AIs, just take some distance, throw it, take cover and have fun... Probably the most powerful weapon in the whole game, so dangerous it can also kill you even in a distance.
And again, none of these tools have a specific purpose other than help the player in a difficult situation.

:D
Overall this mission was a way to introduce all these new items created by the Order. I didn't create a nokill objective so you can try them on the souls who can end up being training dummies (except the important souls like interpretors and Superior Soul).
