You should be more precise.
If you are in Thales room, then you are in the south star and the book you're talking about is the instructions to Garrett. So you have to go to the north star by heading to the Tower and meeting Soul Vlain (go to the main hall with a huge stained glass and head to the west).

If you have the Book of names, then you are in the North star and in Dumah's quarters, so you have to go back to the south star...

I think you just want to go to the north star actually.

The mission keeps crashing when I try to steal paintings. I got the first one, but when I frob either of the next two, I briefly hear the "picked up an item" sound, then the game crashes to the desktop instantly.

One painting is in a study-type area just off the room where Interpreter Whatshisface gives you the book with mission goals (steal the other two gems, etc.). The other is somewhere in the South Star.

What's the deal? I have version 1.1 of this mission, dated May 2008. Is there a revised version available? I have all the custom scripts installed, and I was able to play the previous two Rocksbourg missions without any crashes.

A room with 2 bathrooms ? I think you're in the toilets of the south star :laff:
You went a little too much to the north in this room. Just look on the first floor of the main hall, to the west. You'll notice a grid door which leads to a circular stair and some kind of a tower. Basically its in the middle of the main hall.
Go to the top floor and there is a room you can open where you meet Soul Vlain. Follow his instructions.

You must be playing with the Enhancement pack by Namelessvoice. As I wrote in the very first post :
You must play the mission with a clean and standard install of the original thief 2 game, which means you must uninstall any kind of graphic pack you would have, especially the Thief enhancement pack by Nameless Voice. If you play the mission with graphic packs, there will be bugs and crashes due to the high amount of texture palettes. Furthermore, the mission contains everything it needs to look pretty, including objects from NV's pack.
An easy way to uninstall NV's pack would be to rename the EP.crf file installed in your thief 2 folder. Once you finished playing the mission, just give back to the file its original name.

Well hi guys, this is my first post, although I come here very often and read many of the conversations. Well I felt kinda obliged to write some stuff for the first time after 2 years here due to this (F**KING SH**!!!T CR@@P TH@@T TH!!!N& SC@@RE!) THE HΕ!!!LL OU## OF ME) pretty calm and peaceful mission.

Well, since I know how DrK enjoys large posts I will make it a good one.

First things, first! I HATE horror movies, horror games, horror jokes or everything that has to do with monsters. However I have seen Silent Hill Movie, The Eye 2, played Silent Hill 2 (and some minutes of 3), the Suffering 1, resident evil 1,2,3,4, Doom 3 and I think (apart from the Thief series) thats my whole biography in horror stuff. I have to mention that Suffering and Resident evil series were not at all frightening.

DONT READ!!!! SPOILERS

First played a night in Rocksbourg 1 from pure luck. I have downloaded a bunch of fms and this was the first my eye caught. Well spend too much time trying to find one key (never found it actually) so I hit the door with my sword until it broke. Then I had to find another key and honestly I was about to abandon it until I got something under a wood and !SHOCK! and then !SHOOOOOOOCK! That was UNEXPECTED! I think I had a heartattack and after that my heartbeat was something like 300! I was really scared cause this came out of the blue. After a while the music was getting louder (and wickeder) and a 3 meter zombie was coming to my place. I have to tell you, that I so couldnt handle the pressure that (2 o'clock at night, no lights, full sound with headphones) I unplugged the pc's cable to be saved. After an hour (honestly) lying on my bed trying to relax, I entered the forums and then replayed the scened and eventually completed it. You can't tell how shitted was I...

Honestly I never wanted to play the second mission. NEVER! But I did cause it was a series (trust me if it wasn't I would never play it). Well I wasnt scared at the second mission but it was one of the most tensed EVER! That's why in every corner and every item I took, I thought I would have another stupid (STUPID!) encounter....

And then came the third. Before I start it I have read this topic VERY VERY carefully. What I realised was that this mission was even more frightening than the 1st part. So guess what? I never played it for a year. Well after a couple of other fm, I finally decide to give it a shot (STUPID ME!) Well I was prepared for THE worst. I have heard about dark zone but I was ok till then. Just to know, I almost never reached the ground floor on the first elevator. When I saw the old familiar guy YOU-KNOW-WHO, first thing that crossed my mind was Alt+F4... Nevertheless I went the mission just fine up until DarkZone (except a dead body in the transition portals, curse you DrK). Used one or two hints from forums and got there safe and sound.

Then I dont recall what Garrett said after I went down the elevator to Dark Zone but I totally thought the same thing. When I saw the surrundings I thougt (you have to be kiding... this place AGAIN?????? and a WHOLE ZONE out of it...), but still I ventured through... Well after a zombie flash in a corridor jump (I halted the jump out of the shock and fall down!). To be honest, I never thought that the same trick twice would have caught... After that came the first encounter with the zombie. Kinda scared 'cause he saw me and run after me while I still havent got out my sword... A zombie behind some bars was also scary but was cool... Laughed actually :D

Now for real terror. Well hiting the button with the arrow was my BIGGEST mistake. All the lights went off and I then realised 2 things... 1st) The lamp had no effect... 2nd) No matter how many times I hit that button again, lights were still off... (On second thoughts, if I used the passcode without hitting the button, would I still have lights?) So, I thought my troubles were ended. But then was the real terror. Mind to say first time in Thief series have I used flares... And might I say ALL of them. YOU MANIAC, MANIAC! 3 SWITCHES? 3 F@CK!!!N&&& SWITCHES???? WHY??? WHAT HAVE WE EVER DONE TO YOU??? AND NO LIGHT???? AND MAZE CORRIDORS??? AND COULDNY YOU HAVE BUTTERFLIES INSTEAD OF GUARDIANS???? EVEN POKEMON WOULD DO THE TRICK! But NOOO you HAD TO HAD GUARDIANS!!!! And even that, it's Ok! i can handle, really. BUT THAT MUSIC AND THAT SOUNDS????????????????????????? WHY, OH WHY??? I was so scared at first I muted the game. After a while relaxing I put the sound back on and first thing I heard is the most terrifying moaning I have ever heard ANYWHERE. ALT+F4 and LIPTON TEA after that. I thougth REALLY about uninstalling ANIR3 then. Still I gave it a shot after 2 hour time and a chat with my girlfriend to relax. First thing she told me over the phone was "Are you ok? You sound like you killed a person! Your voice is trembling". Next time I put on youtube some Mozart symphonies (trust me, it was the most relaxing son I could think of that time) and muted Thief and continued playing. After a while I found a pole and stayed there for a century...Eventually I dropped in the pit all 3 zombies. Then VERY carefully I went out tried to uncover all the levers. But still afraid because I wasnt sure If they were just three. And I couldnt stand another heartattack...(supposind they were 3 and didnt assuming there was a 4th guy appearing out of nowhere probably wanting to just get to know each other and hang out sometime...) Well I got the stone after that and here's where I am right now...

I have no flares and I try to run as fast as I can, but no matter what, the only ways I seem to be going always lead to a dead end (a gate of some kind) I searched the topic but couldnt find anything really useful. Can someone give a full spoiler or a map or something. And even if not that, just tell me what's going on after that, till the end? (I have book of names already...)

After all that, I have to say only one thing!
Please let it be a 4-mission campaign! My heart is not going to stand for another 3 more missions like that... I cant really imagine if the 3rd mission is as such, what will happen with the 6th...:eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:
