Wow. I'll try to keep it short.
I started this mission last wednesday, but i never had a good time to actually finish it. Not even now... (in the middle of dark zone, cheaply looked for the combination of number in this thread's latest post. Damn me.)
The South star was visually the most stunning stuff i've ever seen.
The North star was funny actually. That running statue, which actually got bugged once (standing still), so i KOed it and read the text when i picked her up :D actually scared me at first and so did lots of other stuff.
I just REALLY wish i could finish it now, but since i don't own a room, heheh... the immersion gets broken in small miserable bits. Also, in Dark Zone, those enemies kind of scared the crap out of me, when i ran into them... They run so fast... i actually made the first zombie-like creature fall into a pit xD Poor loser
If i may ask, Chiron or someone else, where did you see the number 6 for the combination?
Thor on 28/2/2009 at 10:32
Finally pwned it!
Omg. Almost 4 hours ingame time, missing a bit under a thousand loot, missing half of the map's secrets. Nice hiding of stuff as usual, DrK!
Finally i've done the series that claimed to be one of the most scary ones in whole Thief.
Btw, actually the Dark Zone wasn't that scary and long as i thought it would be. :D Thank you, i wouldn't have wanted it more scary!
Ironicly, probably the scariest stuff for me in your series were the ceiling/sewers in Discovery.
Righto, i'm done here for a while. Can't wait for your 4th part!
DrK on 28/2/2009 at 14:41
Thanks, glad to see you enjoyed it, especially the Dark Zone (you wanted it longer !? holy shit :laff: ).
To know you think tunnel 21 is scarier than the dark zone is kind of a compliment, as it was a little more tricky to make it scary
Thor on 28/2/2009 at 19:01
The situations at times were diffrent. At that time i was immersed to the game. Sadly enough, i couldn't get so immersed during the Dark Zone and other zones.
Anyway i feel like i've completed something big (being your 3 FMs), now i can rest for a while on Thief hehe.
Edit: Forgot to say the thing that needed to be said first: Thank you for your hard work on these missions!

I do not know exactly where this number is displayed, but Dooh Nibor's post above mentions three of the four locations where you can read numbers. The fourth number can be read
behind a cage on the floor. It's near the room where you have to use the numbers, not where dead people hang in one of the cells. It can be very hard to see or decipher those numbers, especially if the lamp malfuncions. I used some flares at that point.

Thesal's quarters are in the North Star, nearby the light aera (door with yellowish light, above a big hole to the workshops).
You must enter the light aera first to get into his quarters.
And about the objects needed for the keys, their locations was given many times in this thread. Also I think BrokenArts did a post with everything listed.
Found back something about the keys I wrote a while back on another forum. These are the objects you need to create the keys :
LIGHT
- An eye : what permits interpretation of light
(northstar kitchen)
- Phosporescent product : what permits creation of light, it's what's inside the flares and the glowing mushrooms of the game.
(workshops storeroom)
DARKNESS
- Rotten flesh : sounds cute enough for darkness
(northstar kitchen)
- Mechanist mask : mankind's madness
(southstar bedrooms, in a footlocker)
FIRE
- Salamander blood : salamander is some kind of a lizard, but in the myth it's a legendary creature who lives in the fire.
(lowest level of the main room in northstar, where there is a meeting)
- Piece of charcoal : what remains from a fire, piece of burnt wood
(northstar kitchen, fireplace)
WATER
- Distilled water : water used in chemistry and other. Still water.
(workshops)
- Bag of fish scales : well, it's pretty obvious
(southstar kitchen)
EARTH
- Burricks excrements : burricks live in the ground, right ?
(northstar bedrooms, in a little storeroom)
- Sand of burnt lands : the sand sounds pretty related to earth to me, as well as the word "land"
(southstar storeroom)
AIR
- pieces of air crystal : "air crystal" anyone ?
(southstar scriptorium)
- elementals tears (or breath, can't remember) : this one might be tricky, but elementals are these floating entities from the first Thief, you know. Mostly related to fire, just imagine one related to air would exist.
(Thales quarters in southstar)
VINE
- Trickster's herb : no comment
(southstar kitchen)
- Bag of cursed seeds : seeds which got corrupted by pagan magic
(southstar storeroom)
ICE
- Ice dust : some kind of a sand made of ice...
(southstar storeroom)
- Maintenance freezing : used in the workshop to cool down the machines
(workshops storeroom)Comes to think of it, there are several things hidden in the mission, and I never really gave a list or something. So let's talk about the official and non-official secrets (only betatesters were aware of this) :
1 - Did you find the 10 secrets of the mission ?
2 - Did you find all the paintings of the mission (bonus objective) ?
3 - Did you find half the loot of the mission (bonus objective) ?
4 - Did you find ALL the loot of the mission (bonus objective) ?
5 - Did you try to knockout the running statue ?
6 - Did you find the reference to the hag from Thief 3 ?
7 - Did you find the reference to Gaetane's L'arsene series ?
8 - Did you find the reference to Purah ?
9 - Did you find the references to a few fan-missions ? (quite free to interpretation actually, so...)
10 - Did you find all the 16 objects required to create the keys ?
11 - Did you visit each Elemental zone ?
12 - Did you see the perfectly round ceiling, hidden somewhere in the south star ?
13 - Did you find the streets of the previous missions, drawn on the Rocksbourg map ?
14 - Did you find the only way to break the mission ? (by that, I mean going beyond the limits, going to places you weren't supposed to go)
Actually I would be very interested to get some answers regarding those interesting secrets:
5 - Couldn´t do it up to now, any tricks here?
7 - I am not sure, what is it?
8 - I am not sure, too. What is it?
9 - Can you give us a list to those? I only know of some texts in books, that seem to give reference to other fan-missions....
12 - Actually can´t remember it, to be honest. Was it a secret location?
13 - If it was the map near Thales chambers, yes.
14 - I would really be interested to know where this is possible ;)

Concerning the one about
breaking the mission by boldly going where no man has gone before and no one was supposed to go anyway: Maybe some of Urza's postings show the solution.
Quote Posted by Urza
The mechanist mask has fallen down a long shaft beneath some metal platforms. I think I know the answer, but is there any way to get to the bottom of those deep shafts and retrieve the mask? Or do I need to start again?
Quote Posted by Urza
I did get down the shaft with the stone potion so I didn't die, but then you can't get back up so I started again.
On the other hand, if you
forget the "go somewhere where you're not supposed to go" thing, several other "solutions" come to mind, such as killing Interpreter Thales (the one giving you the mission) or Soul Vlain (the one opening the final portal) before they have finished key tasks (such as opening the portal back to the city), or maybe tossing important things (like the Book of Names) into an abyss.Another idea: What about
not taking the Death shadow (the "dark gem"), leaving through the labyrinth beyond that point and escaping the invisible monster at the same time, but then trying to get back to the gem in order to take it? Just thought of that, but have no time to check this out now.

Ok, here are a few hints.
5 - The statue :
It can be tricky but you can ko it if you block it using crates or whatever, or simply by using a flashbomb.
7 - Gaetane's reference :
In the south star, there is a secret in the storage room where you find a victrola. Frob it, and it hardly plays an old song in french : it's a song for l'Arsene (the character) from the fourth part of the series, the den (a servant sings it somewhen).
8 - Purah's reference :
The ancient Superior Soul missed by all the experimented members of the Order was named Superior Soul Huso : the real name of Purah is Anthony Huso.
9 - FMs references :
There are too many, I don't remember them all. I treated them like if they were archives from the Soul's researches through time (they went there, took a souvenir, etc...). This includes Gaetane's reference for example. Some are in the Room of the legends : a staff from ROFB's Transition in chaos, an orb from Sliptip's Kill factory 2, the Kharras drag from Calendra's legacy, the Talisman of Life from Ominous bequest, a mask looking like a skull to represent Yandros' dance with the dead (the king skeleton or something like that) and so on... These are very subtle, and generally free to interpretation, so I wonder if you can see them all.
12 - Perfectly round ceiling :
Go to Interpreter Thales quarters, in his bedroom. Now look above you : the ceiling is almost perfectly round, Sliptip style.
At the beginning, I started building the whole mission that way, but you know what, I didn't even reached the Tower I already had to abandon such a silly idea. I had too many deadly bugs, and the mission would have only been in the South Star :D
So I deleted several brushes and did again the arches, thief style. Still, I forgot to remove the ones from Thales bedroom, and it's almost before the betatesting session that I noticed it. Meh, I left it as a souvenir.
Later, when I played Ashen Age, I was stunned to see Sliptip managed to finish the mission despite dromed, but as I knew it would happen, his mission was too small (but damn it's cool).
14 - Break the mission :
Well that's what Urza already mentionned : the transition zones are supposed to be deadly, but if you use a stone potion you can survive and be stuck down there.
You cannot kill the important souls like Vlain or Thales, the mission fails if you do. And normally you can't enter the labyrinth if you don't take the Dead shadows.

Great! Thank you DrK for your hints regarding the secrets :)
