Downwinder search the servant's bathroom first and when you find something, use it outside near the water supply building.
When you knock down the icon it allows the red beam to reach the distributor but only if the power was turned on. After this happens, search near the distributor for something new.

Been playing this a while on Expert, and enjoying it a lot. (They made Benny an archer? Are they MAD??) But now I'm a bit stuck inside the compound.
1. I've turned off the hot water.
2. I had a Mystery Key and have used it, but can't remember where!
3. I've got the gold ankh, and put it in place, but have not found the silver equivalent.
4. I do not have the maintenance key.
5. I cannot get into the area above trapdoor above the upper inside landing (the one with a second Dewdrop in it). I think that's the same area behind a lone frobbable stained glass window high above the chapel, but I can't open that window.
6. I've turned an unlit torch elsewhere on that same landing, but have not found what it has opened.
7. I seem to have cut the chains holding the stone hammer above the centre of the chapel, but it has stayed there in mid air.
8. I don't have a key for the chest in the secret storage area off the Game Room.
All hints gratefully received!

Responses interspersed among questions. You are missing one thing, the
Maintenance room key, and that will lead to most of the rest.

** A door in an alcove right next to where you found the key, which was formerly blocked by hot water.
3. I've got the gold ankh, and put it in place, but have not found the silver equivalent.
** You need to enter the maintenance room first and then the crypt.
4. I do not have the maintenance key.
5. I cannot get into the area above trapdoor above the upper inside landing (the one with a second Dewdrop in it). I think that's the same area behind a lone frobbable stained glass window high above the chapel, but I can't open that window.
** Open that window using the Window key, which was dropped onto the altar with a poof when (and if) you placed the candy and gem on the altar. There are plenty of hints about what you fill find behind the window.
6. I've turned an unlit torch elsewhere on that same landing, but have not found what it has opened.
** Not clear what you mean by "same landing". There are two torches in one corridor.
7. I seem to have cut the chains holding the stone hammer above the centre of the chapel, but it has stayed there in mid air.
** You need to hit the hammer itself with a broadhead or water arrow. I have never seen chains broken by themselves. All hints gratefully received!

Thanks, I got the window key (query 5) not long after posting. On point 7, I hit the hammer underneath with the sword, the chains broke and are swaying in the breeze, but the hammer remains suspended in mid air. I hit it some more with the sword, and shot a few broadheads at it, but no change.

Hitting it first with the sword has broken a script. Arrows do not work after that, as you say. The hammer stays in place with broken chains. I just reproduced it. That is certainly a very difficult thing to do, so not many players will have that issue. It took me many tries to do it without taking a lot of damage.
EDIT: I just played further and found that after turning on the power the hammer was still in place, but the beam passed through it, so the secret still worked.
This seems to be just a strange glitch that has no effect on the game play apart from visual.
@John, take note.
