The end of the mission (for me, on easiest difficulty) was rather abrupt! No sooner had I returned (yet again) to
Flik and gave him the dagger, then the mission ended while Flik was still in mid-sentence. After spending about 4 hours on the first part of this whole FM (Bad Venture), I was kind of left hanging with such an abrupt end to Chapter 2 after only an hour & a half of gameplay. Did I miss something?
Looks like a bug. Flik should have accepted the dagger, but without ending the mission. If the dagger is the one from Penny's, Garrett and Flik should have
had another conversation sooner or later (you have to talk to Flik again to get that conversation). Garrett, still wanting to reach the forest he read about in the first mission (that's why he stole the forest key which should have opened the forest gate for him, remember?), should have asked Flik whether there's another way into the forest. Flik should have told him he would show Garrett another way if he did some more stealing for him. Flik then should have given you a list of things he wants you to steal, including
another dagger. This one is a Precursor dagger which you have to steal from a Captain.
Once Flik's list was done, he should have granted you access to a secret passage which leads into the forest. If all other goals were fulfilled at that time, Garrett could walk the passage to its very end, which had the form of a spiral staircase.
If some other goal would have to be done first, Garrett would not have been able to climb the spiral staircase. Maybe he would even have said something, maybe he would just have been stopped by an invisible barrier - I've seen both. So, if the dagger you're referring to was
one you stole in a mansion (not a pub), then at least you have seen most of the mission. If it was the dagger from Penny's instead, you would have missed
a lot of mission 2.

I'm assuming there will be a part 3?
The author wrote in one or two postings of this thread that this is meant to become a campaign of 10 missions, and that he planned to include another mission, "Lost in the Far Edges" (published earlier as a single mission), into the campaign.

The graphics and ambience were absolutely stunning, but the forced order in which the player had to progress was rather strange. Example: [...] I'm not quite sure exactly
how the player is supposed to catch on to that convoluted sequence of steps?
In the "Making of Thief" movie which shipped with my Thief 2 CDs, Lulu Lamer, one of the testers, said something important about this: "There have to be some testers who don't know the game in order to tell the authors: 'That makes sense to
you - but it doesn't make sense for
us!'"

Also, some of the running back and forth to the same person (Jonas in Chptr. 1 and Flik in Chptr. 2) seemed a little unnecessary.
More than just "a little", I would say.

P.S. What the heck was up with that
white tree beast that flashed into existence in your face and then disappeared again on the main floor of Penny's Pub?!! Scared me out of a year's growth! :p :p :p lol
That was not a tree beast, but
some strange being from another dimension. Either this means that the barriers between two dimensions were nonexistant for a short time (Jonas said something about this when you met him in his hidden hideout in the second mission), and the beast was allowed to exist in its own dimension as well as ours, or Garrett's mind was beginning to fail due to the radiation he was exposed to when getting Farage's staff in the first mission, very close to the large crystals on the domed roof (Farage wrote something about that in a letter you may have found near him in the second mission). I rather believe that the first explanation is right since
the two beasts in the sewers (one reduced to organic soup before Garrett arrived, the other still there to scare the shit out of him) looked very like the one in the pub.Quote Posted by JonesCrusher
Please can sombody tell me how to get inside the 40 wanders Inn.
I have the precursor dagger and the book from the library...and I cannot see a way to get in the inn.I have got in the wooden balcony outside but only a goblet on there and no way inside There is no direct way into the 40 wanderers inn. Instead, you get into the inn later on while you're doing something else. So, concentrate on other mission goals for a while, and eventually, you'll end up in that inn.

The dagger I gave to Flik was the one I found in
Penny's Pub. So it looks like I missed a lot of mission 2, unfortunately. I actually had to download the combination of both missions from one of the sites provided in this thread, since the first download of the combined missions I got from Taffers Paradise was obviously buggy right from the start; as soon as I tried to start the first chapter, the game started with the original first mission from TMA (Running Interference). At this point though I really don't feel like uninstalling and trying to install a download from a different site and then going back and replaying. I do wonder if that means that I won't be able to play the 3rd mission successfully, due to items I might lack from not having properly completed chapter 2? Maybe the items required from chapters 1 & 2 will be automatically included in the next chapter? I did find a lot of both chapters enjoyable, for the most part.
Thanks for sharing Ms. Lamer's quote, baeuchlein. My sentiments exactly. Too many instances where the next step forward didn't seem logical in both chapters. I was trying very hard to offer constructive criticism in a diplomatic manner. The graphics were indeed stunning, and the ambience was absolutely satisfying, though. I could've done without
the zombies, but I've always had a mental block about those nasty critters of the Thief world; surprising, actually, since I've played games like 'Dying Light' without even flinching. Go figure. ;)
Thanks for your response, baeuchlein.

use flicks secret passage to the forrest...but I cant find it,...where is it?Concentrate on a
completely different objective now... don't you have one about
Lady Adaline?:sly:
Concerning the statuette: You can try to steal it now.
On the large place stretching from the "40 wanderer inn" to the other end of this quarter, there's a fountain next to a large white building with three double doors. This is the building where the statuette is located, according to Flik's list. Try to enter the building.
Upon attemting to get into the white building,
once you try something with the one of the three entrances which does light up, Garrett should say something to himself. Basically, he says that the lock on that door is too complicated for him, and that Flik should know this. Garrett wants to talk to Flik and tell him he won't steal the statuette for Flik. However, Garrett will only tell that to Flik once he has the other three items on the list.
If the (middle) entrance to the white building does not light up, you most likely already triggered Garretts response, meaning that you can't do anything about the statuette anymore right now.So, deal with Lady Adaline first, and when you are done with that,
the mask problem will be solved as well. After that, you'll land right before the "40 wanderers inn", meaning you can check out the door of the white building, then return to Flik and, most likely, complete the goal with Flik's list.Quote Posted by Dia

There was at least one version (1.3, I think) of the campaign which had a missing MISSFLAG.STR file (should be in the Strings folder of the un-packed zip file), which resulted in only original Thief 2 missions being started instead of the ones from the campaign. Another version had two MISSFLAG.STR files in Strings\english and Strings\german. Several, but not all players reported similar problems with that version. Most likely, you downloaded one of these versions. Technically, your
download was perfect (the zip file was intact), but the contents of the zip file were not right already
before the zip was published for download.
However, I don't think that the MISSFLAG.STR problems explain why your mission suddenly ended prematurely. I think you should try to do it again from where you last saved your game. If that does not help, try something different: You can trigger a new objective in Penny's Pub. It's about
helping Farage, the Mage from which you stole the magic staff in the first mission. To trigger that objective, pick the lock of the door next to the one behind which you found the dagger, then light the candle on the desk (just frob it). Read Farage's note on the desk. You should now have a new objective, "Help Farage". Maybe you can't see it because of an already too long list of objectives, but the "New Objective" message should have appeared.
Try to solve that problem, then. If, however, you already got that objective to
help Farage, but did not complete it before giving the dagger to Flik, try to help Farage first and deliver the dagger later. The idea here is that the game might not end if the Farage objective is not fulfilled. (I admit I'm poking around in the dark here.;))
About items transferred to mission 3: If that happens, we might have to ensure that our completed prior missions were the ones from the last version of the "KoI I+II" campaign. Currently, the latest version is 1.5, but who knows which one will be current when a third mission might appear? Thus, it could very well be the case that one would have to replay the first missions anyway once a new one appears. Let's wait for that to happen and think about it then...:p

Is my savegame screwed?
I went to the library, found the grate and broke the crowbar.
Used Enter The Void to leave, but was transported into Penny's Inn, where i used it last.
Used it again to go to the actual void and then from there to the Pawn Shop to get the acid.
Now i can't seem to find a way to get back to the library.
The entrance to St. Innocent Street doesn't work anymore.
The walkthrough uses Enter The Void to leave the library so i thought that was the way to do it.

Use it again to go back. It will go to the last place you used it on the first try.

So now it just transports me back and forth between those two places.

Something isn't right then, are you running v1.5? I just tried it and it worked --> went to library, used glyph to enter Void, left from there to the sewers, waited until it reappears in inventory (~3 min), then used it again and it went to the exact spot in library where I'd just used it.
