So, I just wanted to replay this mission and see the additional quests for the pagans.
However, again they were not friendly with me and attacked me, although I had freed the prisoner and I did not show up with a wapon in my hand to their town.
So the question is : what makes them aggressive against me and which kind of AI is not allowed for me to knock out or attack?
I had knocked-out 2 thiefs, a few apebeasts, craymen and burricks. I had also blown-up a few eye-plants and can-plants.
Which do I need to psare in order to be able to befriend the pagans on Expert?

After you free the Pagan from the cell, you have to meet him and talk to him outside the village. Then he will talk to the archer on guard there, and after that you will be treated as a friend in the village.
