No, I did not let Katalin see me. Will try your suggestion and see if she drops the key.
Found the tower and the 'chimney' key. That got me to the forge for the lockpicks.
Thanks to both jiansonz and darthsLair for their help. This chapter is hard to get started on IMHO, but I love playing it.

In the campaign the Symbol key you need in All Souls' Day is in the flowerpot beside Katalin in the chapel.
In the early stand-alone version that key is on the bed in Katalin's room, under the pillow.

Thank you, Sensut. Katalin seemed to drop the key when she saw me, as I heard a 'clink'. I finally finished that chapter, and tried both endings. I went with Belial as it was more appealing...much like real life. The wizened faces of the ancients were amazing....in fact, I think I know that person...
Bravo and Bravo for this historic series. It can be replayed many times and will always be a challenge, and a delight.

All souls day: Just to let you know, after I frobbed the sword and ended back up in the countess room, and went to the next rooms, the mission did not end. I thought I must do something silly like kill myself or something. Only when I looked at cavadors8 walkthough, it says go to the next room and the mission ends. It did not and I do not know why, everything else up to this point has been working fine. I guess I will just end the mission manually to proceed. Is there anything I am missing? Thanks.

There are 2 endings depending on which one you choose: the skull (and you find yourself in the prison and the mission fails); or the sword and you can continue the campaign.

What happens is when you take the sword, he says "see you later", you end up in her room, but even going to the adjoining rooms doesn't end the mission, it was no big deal, I just ended it manually, but I thought it strange that the mission did not end on its own

Just playing the prologue... somehow my moss arrows are not working. The bolts connect to the ground and no moss is spreading at all. Is this a common bug? Does anybody got a solution for this?
I mean I don't need the moss arrows desperately, but this issue keeps me wondering what's going on.

There was no problem with those arrows, I do not know what could be the problem.
