T1 Mission, Nigel's Hidden Treasure, Feb. 10, 2013 - by bbb

Really stuck in what I think is near the end. I'm in a tiny room/box with a dead guy on the other side of a lava bit. He stared to death and there is no exit. I needed 2 rope arrows to get here and connt get them back. I have already dealt with the rat men and extended the bridge. Is it possible to jump across the other side of that huge lava pit? I have tried at least 20 times and always slip off the high peaked rock. There is a ledge with a lit mushroom on it across the way, but I cannot get over there at all. On the right side, as I said, I have gotten across and been through the single zombie area and the dead end dead guy. I cannot go forward from this point at all. I cannot go back to the Hammer temple and get back "home". Either I am missing something really obvious, or I am supposed to be able to jump across lava without slipping off the rocks. Everyone else seems to solve this. What am I missing? Thanks :)

bjack, you need to find the burrick area. It's near the end of one of the rail tracks just around the corner from the elevator you used to get to the dead guy, there's a mine cart at an angle, go through the crawl space on the right just before the cart, it's easy to miss as it's in the shadows.

Thanks fortuni. I thought I looked around that area carefully, but I was also evading someone. :) I'll check it out.
And I did... Completed, but just about 1400 loot shy of it all. I am sort of surprised not to find any loot in the rat man area at the end. These dudes usually have gold or silver nuggets. Cool game though. Took me just over 3 hours of play, mainly because I was running around in circles ;)

There is a
lockbox to the right of the gate. I just tried it out, and the key works for me.

Stats:
* Normal difficulty
* 1 hour and 29 minutes
* 13385 of 14083 total loot
* 0 hints needed
Things I liked:
* It is a long mission and the environments are varied, including a City section, caves, buried buildings, more caves, a Pagan temple, a Hammerite cathedral, and even more caves.
* * The entire mission is a string of setpieces, and you travel from one to the other. On one hand, it helps the player to make constant progress. On the other hand, it removes that element of free-roaming exploration. Overall, I thought the mission had a good flow.
* There are many secret rooms to discover.
* I enjoyed riding the float near the end.
Things that could be improved:
* The story and the journals are rather uninspired. References to songs by The Beatles in Hammerite books were rather distracting.
* The last parts of the mission get a bit repetitive: Get to new area, look for key, find key, open locked door, move on to next area.
* Visually, this is one of the less appealing missions for T1. I noticed instances of building parts floating in midair and misaligned textures.
* The second paragraph of the briefing is superfluous. All the information the player needs is contained in the first paragraph, and it even ends on a perfect note.
* Of course, there is a guard called Benny who did something stupid. This is an overused cliché.
* When I arrived at the Hammerite cathedral, taking out the patrols on the perimeter was too easy: I simply waited in the darkness near the entrance and then blackjacked them one by one as they walked by. I took out all seven with no challenge at all.
Bugs:
* Directly after you go through the front gate near the start, you can grab a coin stack through a window. I mantled through this window into a small room behind it. When I tried to climb back out, I realized the opening was too narrow on this side. I was stuck and had to reload.
* The gate below where you use the "upper gate key" can be opened. It leads to a solid black wall, the mission boundary. This gate should be locked. Also, there is no way back up from this area.
* Ambient sound in the cave with the floating platforms where Jake died abruptly cuts off when you step over an invisible line.

Just played this one today !
Thank you bbb for your amazing work.
You're definitely a level design master !
This mission is a true masterpiece for TG, I had as much fun playing it as I had playing Three Crowns, or a Short Night's Work.
Even though this FM wasn't the most impressive visually, I had lot on fun playing it !

Fantastic mission! :thumb: So far there has been not one single FM from bbb that I didn´t like. Your thief 1 missions are definitely my favourites! :D
Thank you so much for this! :)
