Once more I am forced to bleat for help.. Yes, I restored this mission (thx to the mods for showing me how), and my last save was standing right before the safe. All other objectives (apart from the 'keep Mercedes alive' and 'get back' ones) are checked, I just have to get the sapphire vase. I *can* do this by leaning into the safe and frobbing blindly until I hear a 'Dring!' But I really need to know how to open it, for sanities sake. Just a pointer or two,
its been months since I played it - I can't recall the clues either.

KoMaG, when you posted this, I had not yet played it. So, what do I do? I schedule two all-night downloads: one for the game, and the other for the briefing. Combined the two on Thursday, and finally got to play yesterday and today. BTW, I too love the "city" style of mission, especially if you can go into every building!
Anyway, this was an absolutely awesome FM. It was so creative, and had so many things I had never seen before. The AIs were great and unique, and I mean more than just Mercedes. I'm so used to having to sneak past everyone it was great to have AIs act like a normal person. For instance:

Spoiler:
The guard in front of the "Art Collector's" mansion doesn't get freaked out or chase you if you walk by. If you get to close, he just says, "Private Property...move along now."

I love it!
I played as Garrett, which was tough! I had read people asking about the safe, so I knew there weren't any hints. Fortunately, I figured that out without having to read a spoiler. My only problem was that I didn't originally
Spoiler:
figure out that the talking head was another objective -- I never paid any attention to him. Just dropped him on the floor and let him make ranting Monty Python references!

I guess this shouldn't be a problem, but for some reason (maybe because I never got that objective), when I got to Mercedes apartment, she never showed. Once I went back and got that objective and completed it, she was there.
I thought I was doing really well on gold...found lots of hiding places and all. Ended up 2000 below the max! lol...and people were complaining about missing 25...
This was just a great mission, and I thank those who had the concept and brought it to life. My only complaint...I'm afraid of heights. Will you people stop making me climb hundreds of feet into the air all of the time?
Oh, and KoMaG...that's why I'm afraid to play the Great Tree.

Ramirez -
Spoiler:
The centre circle of buttons indicates how many of the numbers are correct. When they are all lit, the safe will open. Start with the first number, move it one place and push the button. If a light goes off in the centre, it was already correct, so put it back, if a light goes on, it is NOW correct, so leave it and go on to the next button. If nothing happens, move it one more and push the button again. Keep doing this until a light comes on. You get the idea. Unfortunately, there is a bug with the safe that crops up occassionally. When that happens, you can't get the safe to open, no matter how hard you try. In that case, you can't finish the mission, which is why I always advise people to go directly to the art dealers and do the safe first, so it's not too hard to start over if you need to.

Never had that problem, dunno. Perhaps the install is somehow corrupted, such as not using darkloader or installing the mission while another mission was installed or while you are working on a dromed mission with special files or something...
Nightwalker on 18/12/2001 at 20:29
I've never come across anyone with that problem with this mission before, either. I'd suggest deleting it and re-downloading it to see if something is wrong with your copy.
