Actually, mine has kinda stopped working too... which is to say when I start it up all I see is a black screen now, even though the sound is obviously working and the game potters away at least as far as the main menu.
The only change that has occurred recently is upgrading my graphics drivers (to Forceware 91.31) which is the likely culprit, although I fail to see how this would have affected 320x200 2D rendering.

You need an Administrator Account to run SYSTEMSHOCK-Portable.You sure? I don't think I've ever run it as an admin. I will check tonight.
Kolya on 13/7/2006 at 21:27
Please do so. It only works on an admin account for me.

Well, the black screen can also be the comport-bug. If the focus stays on SShock, then it'll wait black for you until you click "ignore".
Try alt-tabbing to see if there's a popup. And to alt-tab back to SShock, it takes two selections (alt-tab to it, and again alt-tab to it.). Sorry if that's not the issue, 'mninahurry.

Just tested. Ran fine.

Thanks Heme, so it's just a possibility that people with problems might check.

Afraid that's not the issue unfortunately - I've tried alt-tabbing and there's nothing there. Also, IIRC with the com-port bug it waits for you to answer before the game actually starts - in this case the game carries on fine (playing the intro movie then going to the main menu music) just with no video.
I will try rolling back my drivers and see if that fixes the problem.

Wow. One download and extraction and my most favorite game of all time is accessible to me once again. Many thanks, Kolya.
Sadly the 1280 res pack causes Shock to crash on me.

So it turned out that reverting my graphics drivers to Forceware 77.77 has fixed the no-graphics problem in System Shock. The newer drivers suck anyway, so no loss there.

I downloaded it a couple days ago. I am impressed. It works very well on my computer (it is a 650 MHz running XP) with absolutely no problems what so ever.
