I would like to do some more testing though before I get rid of these.
In case you want more info:
I am on WinXP, no VDMSound installed. I don't get a VDDLoader.DLL error, nor the Com port error. It all works great here once I remapped the reslution to standard ones (GF4 4200).

Thank you Yakoob.
I'm currently working on version 0.4.
I decided to follow ZB's advice for this one and release it with the game's original resolution 640x480.
"Resolution packs" for higher resolutions (and returning to default res) will be available for download at SBF that you just unzip into the game folder.
I hope that this way more people can play this out of the box and then easily upgrade if it works for them.

Does anyone have an idea how to set the default resolution to 640x480 without using a save game?

Hack the executable?
Good luck with achieving the goal for this project. A true plug-and-play System Shock would be great.

Heh, I lack the skills for hacking anything more complicated than a wire puzzle or tic-tac-toe. All I did until now was repackaging other people's work in a more accessible way.
So I could put in a generic named save game ("Hacker v0.1") but that means the intro doesn't start automatically anymore. And people would have to continue an existing save game which would lead to some irritation I guess.
Or I wait for someone like Toxic Frog to come along and fix this while I'm staring at a hex editor that I don't understand.
EDIT: (

Hey yeah, using ToxicFrog's approach he could theoretically redefine the starting resolution to 640x480, then make "640x400" be 800x600, and "640x480" be 1024x768.
