I don't have VDMSound installed, but got sound anyway. The MIDI on this box really sucks.

There is only one PIF in the archive, that is "System Shock.pif" (I omitted the '!').
Well, that's handy. Now you have to press 'S' however many times before you get it selected, rather than just pressing '!' <return> to start the game from its folder...
I thought CDShock.pif set options for the .exe that it wouldn't let me set on the shortcut to the batch file?

Wow, awesome job, it works nicely!
When I run CDShock.bat, it crashes. I figured the problem is with running the game through dos32a; when I removed that from the batch file, it worked fine (running CDShock.exe on its own also works well, though, mouse moves too slow in 640x480 so I still use the mouse driver).
At first, the movie wouldn't show and the game would crash as soon as I tried playing. I used ss1hr to remap 640x480 to 640x480 (instead of the default 1024x768) and now it all works fine!
But really, awesome job with this, wow!

But didn't you get a VDDloader.DLL missing error? Because I got that on a system without VDMSound when I started CDSHOCK.bat directly.

Which options do you mean?

Nope. I do get the COM2 port error, but clicking Ignore lets it run fine. Well, relatively fine. I have gotten a few random crashes.

Odd. When I tried CDSHOCK.bat directly again without VDMSound it didn't give the VDDLoader.DLL error anymore and worked as for ZB.
Also the dos extender dos32a.exe seems unnecessary as noted by Yakoob. Worked fine without it on two systems in 1024x768.
I would like to do some more testing though before I get rid of these.

IIRC, I put in dos32a in an attempt to get those annoying COM port errors to go away...

What refresh rate does System Shock run in? Is it static, dependant on the desktop, or something else?
I ask because recently I tend to get headaches below 85hz and I don't want to be throwing up all night because of some bitch AI.

I don't know... I guess it's just the prize you pay. :erg: :eww:

Price you pay.
