I have an emulated win98se here and will look into that later (uni now). Might be that you just have to change the sound settings stored in CYB.CFG.
Also see if you can enable "legacy" drivers on your soundcard settings in the device manager.
And if you haven't done so already try running it in win98 DOS mode.

I have with no luck. From selecting msdos mode from pif properties to restarting in dos from the start menu and using 3 or 4 different autoexec/config configurations for boot loading. It boils down to the cmedia audio drivers and the distinct lack of dos support. Even sbemulation in windowed games is subpar or lacking. Just need to get a SBLive or slightly earlier and all will be good.
Is all good anyhow, as I've found that some old games I had for 95 actually ran better with XP's compat than they did on 98se. Conversely there's others, like SS2, which run best on 98se although using the truereduxgraphicpack grinds my comp almost to a halt.

Arrah! None of the options fully work. Either they play the intro moive at an extremely choppy rate, and then don't play the game at all, or they don't show the intro movie, only audio, and then the cursor is super fast and if I try to switch to higher resolutions I get a black screen. Help! I really want to play SS1. This is so frustrating!

Mastery of the mind is a slow but rewarding process. Read the ~400 posts thread at the top of this forum about how to get SS1 to run and meanwhile achieve a higher frustration level. Then try lowering the refresh rate as described earlier in this thread.
If you still have problems, read everything again, update your drivers, note your specs and what you did to solve the problem in a comprehensible way.

The dgVoodoo solved the discoloration issue when using high resolution on my laptop with ATI Mobility Radeon, except when it is activated, the mouse movement behaves oddly (and irritating).
When I move the mouse straight up, the cursor doesn't go straight up, but moved offset to go northwest. Time-direction wise, the cursor goes at 11 o'clock direction when I move the mouse towards 12 o'clock direction. So if I move the mouse in a continuous circle rotation, it would circle its way to the top-left screen in no time.
I couldn't find any settings in the dgVoodoo setup to adjust this behavior unless I disable dgVoodoo!
I've searched the forums to see if anyone had this problem before, but there was none. So with great despair, I am stuck with this unique problem no one has mentioned nor experienced. :(
I guess I'm stuck with using 320x400 mode for the maximum possible hi-res with no cursor bugs and discoloration. DOSBox is an alternative, but the frame-rate struggles at 640x400 and above.

Thanks for reply.
It was already set to "None". Problem still persist in dgVesa mode regardless of joystick setting.
