the original (canceled) Dune movie
Which would have been badass from what I read. Moebius and Giger also did design work for it, that nutter Jodorowsky directing and Dalí as emperor Shaddam? Hell yes.
Rocketman: I think I get it now. You mean a collision energy total of 1Ep, right?
RocketMan on 18/9/2008 at 22:35
Indeed :D

And did you read it? My question was what he means by 'achieving planck energy'. It's a unit- it's like saying 'I hope we will achieve Cubic Furlongs'
"The Planck energy is not only the energy needed (in principle) to probe the Planck length, but is probably also the maximum possible energy that can fit into a region of that scale."
Schattentänzer on 19/9/2008 at 09:14
Yeah I know, but that's probing as in 'we fling some bosons at it and look how they bounce back', I think. I have no idea what a hadron collision at planck energy would signify.

That LEP sure is big; what a great aerial shot of the countryside, marked by beautiful science.

Why bosons?

Fermions would be to big, I think, you would need something small enough to provide enough resolution. No idea how you would probe something as small as the planck length, but force carriers would be my next best idea :p
Edit: The wiki article on (
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Planck_length) planck length has it described, but appearently you would create a widdle woozie black hole that'd ruin your measurement.

It does look system shocky...have to agree there :)

As for the aesthetic, most of scifi is either inspired by Star Wars or HR Giger anymore, and it gets cliched to death ... But another unsung pioneer was Chris Foss -- big, bold colors, very geometrical -- and that's the route that System Shock took. It's just as iconic and striking as Giger; it's a shame more designers aren't inspired by it.
Ironic that Foss did early production art for
Alien (the film which made Giger's art style famous), but none of it was ever used.

I know this approaches useless trolling but that Out of this World remake was two tweens away from unmitigated junk at best and disrespectful at worst. Its as if the author had absolutely no bloody idea of what made the game attractive in the first place.
