Since I was recently linked to this (
http://www.st-minutiae.com/misc/comparison.gif) starship size chart, you might want to take a look.
The Galaxy Class starships in Star Trek (e.g. the Enterprise) are only 652 meters...

2600 meters is a hell of a lot for an "elongation".
If this length is desired, then transportation must also be considered (Speaking of practical design). The Excalibur (Crusader series) had a ship internal subway system because of that.
But apart from that, what do you
fill this vast space with?
And: The concept art looks great - my personal favourite would be the third (from a generic, not System Shock specific, view). :thumb:

If I get this right the FTL drive is on the left side? That could be nice, starships with an asymmetrical part always look more interesting and it would emphasize the FTL drive's importance.

Yeah, I agree that the length would definitely not be very Von Braunish, that size was based of another ship design I had seen.
Around the 700 meter mark is right on the money I would say too.

I am concidering it at this stage, honestly every dam starship there is just about has a symmetry line down it, with the exception of maybe the Nostromo, (

Creating one that has no symmetry could possibly be a large design advantage.

I have to finish watching the last three DVDs of the show, for the principle and as a kind of tribute to B5's awesomeness, but that series was such a letdown. :(
I agree the ship itself looks fantastic though.

I found an old bag of some 'oil based clay' and before I went to bed, spent about 50 mins having a go modeling one of the concepts I posted the other night. First time ever doing it, was kinda pleased how it turned out even though its pretty rough.
:wot: You, sir, have some impressive practical skills - already
at the first try.

reminds me of Doc Brown, "You'll have to forgive the crudeness of this model, I didn't have time to paint it or build it to scale." :laff:
Seriously, it looks great. :thumb:

The nose looks a bit heavy, great work though, especially for a first try. :)
