Hello everyone:
Let me begin by saying while everything you are about to read is real and mostly going to be done, the probability of an actual film is unlikely or non-existant.
I am a final year design student from Massey University in Wellington, New Zealand. I am majoring in industrial and product design and I am seeking some advice from anyone willing to participate during 2007
What I have chosen to specialize in is production design, more specifically, concept design and the creation of film miniatures for movies.
What I am currently proposing to do for my major project is a theoretical film adaptation of 'System Shock 2' a game i myself have loved since it was released.
In doing so I will be creating an entirely new visual context
for the film (Disregarding all existing visual material) by taking central ideas, themes, characters and items from the computer game and redesigning them for an audience of today.
After a three month research phase into production design, I will be redesigning the central most important figure and environment of the computer game for the film, a starship which most of you may know, the “Von Braun”.
This is where I would like your assistance.
What I am proposing is that during the year, I will post scans and other digital files of my concept designs and media
for various parts of the film adaptation, mostly of the starship but who knows.
I would be seeking you and and anyone you know to critique and give feedback of these designs.
If you would like to lend me some assistance during the year, I would be immensely appreciative.
For now if anyone would like to post suggestions for the starship, any features you beleive it should have, or any ideas at all about what a System Shock film should have, that would be great.
I have already managed to get the creative team behind the MMOG '(
http://www.eve-online.com/) Eve-Online' to assist in this project, and i am hoping to also get some people from (
http://www.wetaworkshop.co.nz/) WETA Workshop here in New Zealand (the makers of the Lord of the Rings trilogy among others)
Thanks to everyone who contributes :thumb:

Just show us the thing and we'll shred it to pieces criticize it.

Or you could do a flash animation movie.

To be honest. For a SS movie of any description, the problem is script not ship design.
I have no doubt the ship will look cool but SS is a real single person storyline. Most of the atmosphere comes from you being alone.
The problem with that is that you have little chance for dialog and exposition

SS1/2 wouldn't work as a film for numerous reasons.
solution: make your own goddamn movie, heavily inspired by system shock.

He's NOT making a movie, for pity's sake. He's doing a student project on production design based on elements of Shock 2. As he stated, it'll mostly be most on concept design and miniatures.
I, for one, would love to see them here Mike.
Edit: how'd I end up before dethtoll, but replied to his message?

Thanks for all your replys so far, this is more or less the idea dethtoll, im not to interested in a 'script' as such, more behind the scenes sort of stuff. I am going to be taking parts from the game though.
Flesh and anotomy could be one for example as 'The Many' and SHODAN herself refer to this throughout. Maybe some how i can incorporate this into the design of something?, well see.
The idea behind all this is to get fan opinions/suggestions etc.
When it is time for revealing my concepts, i am very keen for them to be ripped to peices, it will only make them better :)

if you haven't seen john carpenter's the thing yet, do so. i'm convinced that the concept of "the many" draws a lot from that film, as well as the x-files episode "ice" (which is in itself a tribute to the thing.) see also: the lack of trust, the utter suspicion, the "blanket solution" of killing everyone who is not you (a la bronson and her security force), et cetera.
the concept of a steadily growing mass of (all too human) flesh is a creepy one, and one that precedes SS2, but is otherwise unexplored. i would suggest avoiding anything to do with a rampant AI (unless you think you can avoid the cliche HAL9000 knockoff, which, ironically, xerxes was kind of meant to be, minus the murderous tendencies.) do what SS2 does and focus more on the fleshy angle of things. (i'm not entirely unconvinced that the last section of the game was tacked on like the rickenbacker was, and since they were all out of ideas they just remade SS1's medical section.)

One tough decision you have to make is who your main character is gonna be?
As in SS1 the plot clearly dictated who you are (apart from the name) and even showed your face in the few animations, SS2 didn't. I maybe wrong, haven't played the second one for a long time now.
And in SS2 the player could decide what kind of training he has. This ofcourse would be pretty hard in a film unless it's some sort of interactive flashmovie. Why not? ;)
Decisions, decisions...
Throw in your standard dullfaced "nothing scares me" - marine and grim destiny awaits you!
