This is pre-alpha footage to get us interested in the game, which usually means that most of the stuff is placeholder. I would expect that most of the assets could still be replaced entirely, beginning with the whole textures and models. I wouldn't be too worried about anything right now. Usually games aren't even previewed until they reach beta, let alone alpha.

A lot of games end up looking worse than their pre-alpha footage, though. If what they're showing to get people interested isn't up to snuff, why would the final product be?

Fair point. I'm confident that these guys will be (
https://www.systemshock.org/index.php?topic=8402.0) listening to feedback, though, and at least we can be pretty sure that nothing they are showing us now will be removed due to tech limitations, as is often the case with trailers that look better than the end result.

More System Shock is always nice, and I'm glad Kick labeled it as a 'remake' and not just simply a remastering. As long as there's an option to keep the original music & sound effects with these awesome new graphics, I think I'll be content with the end result.

Most of the things I remember as being much more interesting in their alpha/pre-alpha stages were made worse not for technical reasons, but because they wanted to streamline and simplify away the things that were interesting.
(Ex: Bioshock, Starcraft 2.)

Then again pre-alpha footage often isn't pre-alpha footage, but a souped up/scripted demo for a trade show or something.

Half-Life 2 looked wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy better in that 1 hour E3 video than in the full release quite a while later.
About the only game I can think of that looked significantly better early on vs end result. Not that Half-Life 2 wasn't great or anything. It's just that it looked about twice as good in the original video.

Invisible War.
And the HL2 beta most certainly didn't look twice as good. It had almost exactly the same assets as the final game. The demo just had a lot more scripted stuff going on.

Yes, and we know that now. But at the time it was said to be reactive AI.
Like for example, the player in the video picked up and dropped a computer screen and one of the NPCs reacted to it and commented. Try doing that in the actual end product and nothing happens. Lots of things like that. I'd have to watch the video again to list them all, but that is the 1st one that springs to mind.
