Better not have friendly NPCs in it. Core to the "System Shock" experience is the loneliness of it all. Adds to the survival horror aspect also.

Very nice visuals, but the combat looks dull as hell. A combat system that isn't more complex than press button to swing stick, and enemies who do nothing but walk towards you in a straight line? What is this, 1994?
Looking forward to playing the demo and feeling it out for myself anyway.

I've backed it, of course.
I'm not so sure about one of the stretch goals, though:
Quote:
1.4 million: This will include Vending Machines, Weapon crafting/upgrading, new Mini Games and Puzzles as well as
a true RPG character leveling system.
I'm sure GMDX Dev will be happy to see that, but to me this indicates a willingess to go a little too far adrift of the original design.

The demo is so good that there's a high risk they will fuck something up during the 18 months of development to come.

Holy F*CK face. Gimme.:thumb:
That gaming laptop is nice.
Amazing how fast the donations are coming in for this game. Over $200,000 in less than a day... Cool. Can't wait for it to be out.

I like how I can shoot out any of the lights, too many games missing that these days. I want the Tri-Optimum Employee handbook. :)
And yeah, I don't want them to add an RPG character leveling system--keep it how it was, that's the beauty of System Shock.

Loved everything except now SHODAN doesn't contact you personally.
Their explanation for that is that at first SHODAN doesn't realize you're a threat or a potential tool, so it's deliberately impersonal. Later, it will get personal.

Told you so :p (about this being a reboot and not a remake).
In whatever form this ends up being I'll play it. I backed it at the $50 level. Don't usually go that high up, but this is System Shock afterall. Have to show my love. Now as to the stretch goals I hope it hits all of them. For any project I back on Kickstarter I always want them to be the most fullest versions of them as can be. Same went for me with Shadowrun Returns + it's expansions and other projects I've backed.
End of the day if it's bad we will always have the original version of SS1 to play via dosbox.
Treat this as though your favorite movie of all time was getting a remake. Chances are that your going to hate it regardless (since the original set your mold of what that thing is), but you give it a chance to prove itself. Whilst in movie territory I've seen FAR MORE horrible remakes/reboots of some of my favorites growing up, but there has been a few good ones. Same goes with video games.
One thing I will say is that from reading the stretch goals it does sound like they want to make System Shock 1 more like System Shock 2. Research system, new inventory management and a RPG leveling system? Yep those were all in SS2 and not SS1. So it's looking like more of SS2 gameplay take on the whole thing. I LOVE SS2 to death so I'm willing to see this through. Plus I want to see more sequels to SS beyond SS3. This may make that more of a possibility.
That said I'm much more happy to be seeing SS3 someday over this this one.
