OK so after playing System Shock 2 for ages, I thought id play the first one but im stuck.
I have got 2 Groves ready for Jettison but whenever I prepare to go into Beta Grove, the booming robotic voice that crops up around the game shouts "Warning: Dangerous Biocontaminate detected. Do not enter without protective suit!" at me.
Now, I have no idea at all where to find one of these protective suits, can anyone give me any hints as to where I can find one?
Thanks!
Oh and also.. the Laser Rapier is the coolest weapon in the game!
Sprint and Whack! nobody can get a hit at me :)

There are enviro-suits on levels 3 and 4. If you are skilled enough you can set the jet enable in beta grove with no suit at all, so long as you can manage your health constantly while fighting/avoiding enemies.
If you must, type "system shock walkthrough" in google and read that for additional help.

Go to level 4 and visit all the rooms, you'll find an environment suit (plus lots of other stuff). I do not know the location by heart, look at gamefaqs.com for a walkthrough that might tell you where it is.
The environment suit in level 3 is not accessible yet at that point.

1- You don't actually need an envirosuit to enter Beta Grove. If you're crazy enough, know exactly what to do there, and take a few 1st aid kits with you, you can get in, enable the jettison switch, and get out in just a few seconds (the switch is located relatively close to the elevator). But since this is your first time playing the game, I wouldn't recommend this.
2- The envirosuit you need is inside MacLeod's office in the Storage level (Level 4). But you can only access his office after you bring security down to nearly 0% (the only camera left will be inside the office). It's an envirosuit v1, which only provides biohazard protection, and it's useless against radiation.

Really? Holy crap I didn't know that....i thought each one just provided better protection than the one before it! Teach me more master!

Your assumption is correct for the following versions of the suit. The v1 is the weakest one, and therefore doesn't protect you against radiation (you'd know that if you had ever tried entering the reactor room while wearing that suit ;))
