I know at least one of the tracks sounded like you ripped the audio from the avi version of the ending rather than trying to rip the source directly(you can hear the difference in the audio). [...] Also You need to include the audio from the intro movie.
It is good to get some feedback! I haven't listened to the latest version yet, so will have to do that soon to see if the sound quality is any different. It may just appear worse than it is because each log is in silence, whereas in the game there would be other things going on (and half the time in the SS games you can only half-listen, because you are worried about something attacking you as you keep on the move).
I got all the sound files by using Glen's tools at (
http://tsshp.sourceforge.net/glen/ss1.html). I only have access to what that extracted. It would be great to include the intro audio, if anyone knows where I could get it? [I am not good with sound recording stuff, though I am getting a new sound card soon, which may help.]

Also there seems to be little momentary hitches here and there, could be my computer but I've only ever seen it do that when I'm working on memory hogging things, which I wasn't doing at the time.
Did you try the CD in a hi-fi? I have trouble with audio on my PC sometimes (hence replacing the soundcard) - but the quality was much better on my hi-fi.

Also...woulda been nice if you had music running softly in the background of the logs, or somethin..
I thought about that, but was worried that it might obscure what the logs say. Also I wanted people to be able to choose their own favourite SS tunes. I could try it if I can work out an easy way of doing it though.

Its good that you put everything in order, but right now it just feels like a bit of a letdown. Granted yes it tells the story, and the story's a good one, but...I dunno......
Oh well, thanks for the feedback! If I make any improvements I'll let you know, there were a few good ideas there.

I'm afraid I still wouldn't know how to turn a video clip into a sound clip... :erg:

Just rip the audio with VirtualDub.

Here is about every sound-card version of the Introduction Theme music from SYSTEM SHOCK from right here on this forum. See (

Out of curiosity why not simply go with Chicajo's material? Its great mix work, fits better for soundtracks, and generally they have more interest than the initial themes.

dvwjr and William Dojinn - thanks for the comments, but I already have pretty much every SS1 tune and remix available (c.25 mp3s!) That includes the Chicajo mixes, some of which I used on the audio CD. However I think what was suggested was to have the opening music AND voiceover, since it would be a good intro to the story - the narrative gives the background then, in a better way than the first logs.

Ah, I see now. You just want the pre-rendered music/voice-over file for the Introduction. Easy enough - here from the
"Play Intro" menu selection is the SYSTEM SHOCK (
http://filexoom.com/files/2006/12/7/47288/intro_shock_000.wav ) Introduction stored as a 10MB WAV file captured from DosBox v0.65 for your use. A little big, but as a lossless WAV file you can manipulate it to your heart's content. Too bad the voice-over itself cannot be easily isolated to overlay a Roland SC-88 MIDI synth...
Hope this helps,

Great, thanks! Downloaded now. I will incorporate it when I get the chance. VERY busy weekend this weekend, since I am organising a martial arts misogi - but hopefully over the next couple of weeks though.
