I've always thought that the story was one of the best things about the System Shock games. Even just the problem of getting all the logs correct (so they are found in an order that doesn't reveal too much too soon) must have been a headache for the developers. The way it is all told never ceases to impress me.
Recently on threads I have been reading about attempts to put the text versions of logs into chronological order, which struck me as an interesting way to go back and read the story. As plain text I'd be able to stick it on my MP3 player and read it on long coach journeys! Then I realised a further enhancement would be to download/unpack the spoken logs, put them onto an audio CD in that same order, and listen to is as a spoken-word story. (If anyone thinks I am TOO MUCH into System Shock, please stop reading...!)
Anyway, I just wanted to post where I had got up to, in case anyone can help me tie up loose ends, or wants to do the same.
System Shock 1
---------------(
http://www.ttlg.com/ss1/voiceres/index.htm)
This has the logs (text and spoken) from SS1, but not in chronological order. (There are mentions of it being done on TTLG forums, but I couldn't find it completed anywhere). I'll have to do that first with my text file, then rename the logs to the same order. It is further complicated by the fact that the logs are in RA format, so will need converting to WAV, then MP3 I think. (Obviously only to WAV for audio CD, but they might as well go on my MP3 player too, there are lots of empty gigabytes on there)...
The main problem here is that - aside from the work of putting them into chronological order and converting to WAV/MP3, two of the logs at
(
http://www.ttlg.com/ss1/voiceres/index.htm) are problematic.
1> emails2 section - (
http://www.ttlg.com/ss1/voiceres/email2.htm) - there is no rebeccalansing3.rm. Instead it links to the rebeccalansing2.rm again.
2> level 1 - (
http://www.ttlg.com/ss1/voiceres/level1.htm) - 1717Oct72_KarennaOzark.rm wouldn't download.
Does anyone have either of those logs, in wav/rm/mp3 format? If so please let me know where I can complete the files!
[Before anyone explains how to get them from the game, I have lent my SS1 and SS2 games to a friend, to introduce her to the joys of the System Shock series! She wanted to try something new.]
System Shock 2
---------------(

Most of the work has already been done here, the text and logs are in chronological order, brilliant! Many thanks to Kolya for that.
There are two problems here:
1> The site doesn't yet include the emails (which would all come at end, after the last log?) If anyone knows where I can download them, please let me know.
2> Some of the links are broken. Again, if anyone knows where I can download the following logs (so I don't have to wait until I get my games back) please let me know.

MYERS, COMMAND: SECURITY REWIRED
I rewired the security station to 83273. I don't trust any of those

NORRIS, COMMAND: SHUTTLE CONTROL
Paranoia has struck. Somebody has changed the access codes to the security
station in the officer's quarters. And now we can't get at the key to
shuttle control. I think Myers is the likely suspect. All that guy thinks
about is conspiracy theories and naked girls.

TOMMY SUAREZ, COMMANDS: POD PROBLEMS
Getting the escape pod working again wasn't as easy as we thought. Bec had
to go back down to engineering! Thank God somebody managed to get the

on the access protocols and now I think we're ready to go.[/SPOILER]
Sorry this has been a long post, any help is appreciated.

All the logs on SBF you mentioned have been fixed. Thanks for pointing this out.

Sounds great to me...but you must include some kind of story/narration as I believe you alluded to. Perhaps you could farm out chapters (writing) to people. They could be level-based, as that would be most natural considering the flow of the game.
Anyway, there's my thoughts, sounds like a good idea!

I'm going to assume this would be like a radio show? Where you'd have a narrator talking with sound effects in the background going on like roars or monsters, computers, ect. If that's how you'd do it, it'd be a pretty cool idea.

I have all of the Profianate(sp?) logs on CD, used it in a school debate to prove that games werent all blood and gore.

I am so tempted to do this, myself...

"... blocked by some kind of sphincter...", how well did that go down?

That's a good idea, but it would be a lot of work. I did something similar for a communication studies project once. My plan here was really just to string the logs and emails together in chronological order, something quite easily done, and as long as you've played the games you would fill in the gaps yourself. The audio CD side of this would just be a trip down memory lane for an SS1 or SS2 fan.
Though if anyone does anything more complex, let me know... ;-)
Best wishes,

I just came here to say:
Jeff Wayne's War of the Worlds.
That is, you might want to try mixing some game music into it.
If you feel up to the daunting task.
