Sorry but than you can't say which one is better, not even in your opinion ;D

I never played SS1 but I do think I had it load on 98se once, but even back then it looked dated. SS2 looked a little dated in the menus but the game play was modern.
I'll say this though, imo, Bioshock is NOT SS3. It has nothing to do with the system shock universe, nothing to do with shodan. At least I think.. I'm not actually finished it yet. SS3 should continue with the end of SS2.
Far Cry is a better game then Bioshock but not better then SS2 because of how unique SS2 was/is.
The diaries in Bioshock are real lame, I seen two ghosts early and they were lame but I haven't seen one since.
I would give Bioshock a 8 out of 10.

I just viewed some game play of SS1 and I could never play that game.. it's WAY too dated.

Well, true, it is dated ;)

I just watched some SS1 gameplay videos on Youtube, I could see myself playing that... if it only had mouse look.

Speaking from experience, if you let yourself in, both issues (dated looks and mouse look) rapidly become irrelevant because the game's story is so good.
By that I mean playing at least through I'd say 50% of Medical, and not just the first room. Take the time to get used to the controls. Have a look around, read/listen to the logs, fights some enemies and have SHODAN contact you.
Ideally, complete the first level before giving a verdict. If by the time you reach the elevator you still think it stinks, then it's pretty much "hopeless" (for lack of a better word)
YMMV

When I played SS1 last year I enjoyed it very much, but I love SS2 a lot more, and I'm pretty damn sure the reason is I played SS1 so late. I think one of the reasons people prefer SS1 is the nostalgia; I have no such thing to hold on to and therefore the interesting 1994 graphics and a damn good gameplay is the only thing that glued me to the game. The controls were never a big issue, took me a day or so to get used to them.

Give it a shot--I started playing SS1 for the first time this week (all the recent Bioshock talk put me in the mood to revisit the world of SS2), and I find the gameplay & story really engrossing, despite the graphics and the somewhat clumsy controls. It helps if you set it to 640x480.

The only bad thing about dated games is that it can be tough getting them to run on modern computers. ;)

I can't even get SS2 to work anymore, XP pro is bad for those old games.
