System Shock 3. Yup it's coming. - by icemann

This one was alittle too BIG in news to leave it just sitting over in the System Shock forum.
Otherside Entertainment released this little countdown teaser:

(which incidentally is done in the exact font as the original System Shock 1 box art)
Which turns into this:

And this thread popped up on another forum:

It's happening guys :).
And if your not already aware. Otherside Entertainment is composed of a vast majority of former Looking Glass Studios (makers of System Shock 1 & 2) employees. So there is not a better studio out there to make this game.

Hmm, I dunno about that. I mean, they still haven't shown anything substantial from Underworld Ascendant, beyond vague buzzwords like "a dynamic, evolving world" with "a living ecosystem", and "realistic lava flow". I still have no idea what their so-called "improvisation engine" actually does. Besides magically making the world fully interactive and responsive to any input from the player of course.
What we got so far is a scripted, linear, in-engine video with a cartoony art-style and a ridiculous console-style fov. And a buggy demo level with barely functioning mechanics and no art whatsoever.
They have barely laid the foundations for their first game, yet they're already announcing their next project? Not just any project, mind, but a sequel to one of the most revered PC games of all time? And they don't have a Warren Spector, Harvey Smith or Ken Levine attached to the project for publicity? Not saying you need these people to make a good game, just their names to finance it. And how are they financing this wonderful game? Magic, like their engine?
And even if we really do get a System Shock 3, who's to say it's not gonna be another Bioshock or Thi4f?

Because it won't be funded by big AAA publisher money, thus they won't be forced to cater to mainstream audience scrubs. OtherSide and SS franchise owner Night Dive are as indie as fuck.

This.
It was big AAA publishers which forced LGS into releasing SS2 when they did, with entire sections cut. This way we get the full game, as envisioned.
That's the wonder of Kickstarter in many ways :).

I'm willing to bet that 20+ game industry veterans with impressive CVs will have a better idea of what they're doing than armchair developers like you. The game's development has been funded, they've got nothing to prove to you. How about you let people who know what they're doing get on with their jobs?

And? InXile crowd-funded Torment 2 while Wasteland 2 was still in pre-alpha development, then they did the same with The Bard's Tale 4 when Torment 2 was in a similar state.

They probably already do. Spector is a creative consultant on Underworld Ascendant in case you've forgotten, there's a good bet he's involved with SS3 too.

Likely scenario? VCs + Kickstarter campaign, with the latter mainly being for marketing and to act as "proof of interest" to the VCs.
Mate, just wait for their game announcement that they're currently teasing to actually happen. All will probably be revealed at that time.

Also seeing as this is Otherside working on it, that almost straight away means Terri Brosius (ala ex Tribes band member who voiced SHODAN). That could be nothing other than great.

So this is good news.
It was bound to happen eventually once its ip got settled. Here's hoping for the best.

The trick is to do our best to not get our hopes too high, as nothing could beat the potential sequel-type games our minds will conjure up.

This is great news, very exciting. It's probably 5-7 years down the road, but I hope Thief is next.

Man, you are such a buzzkill. The statement was that there wasn't a better studio out there to take a stab at it. So who would you choose?
