Well there goes the official sequel then...
Not necessarily, though it certainly makes it unlikely. They only registered 'Dead Space' a couple of months ago, for example, so it isn't beyond the bounds of possibility. Though why they'd allow an already existing mark to lapse on a game they actually were developing, or suddenly have two (presumably) very similar titles in production after nearly ten years of ignoring the genre... so, unlikely.

Then again, since the last time they renewed the license it created such a media stir (it was mentioned on all the major gaming news sites), perhaps this time they're choosing not to renew it until much later in development so they can keep its existence a wee bit more subtle. :erm:
Hope springs eternal, right? :thumb:

Fan-made sequels are great symbols of a live community, but how good will this be? T2X took 5 years to come out, and I don't know if these guys simply have the kind of commitment it will take to put out a polished game.
And in terms of polished game, the type of engine they use will be important. If they just make it with SS2's engine it'll be seen as another fan mission, albeit a big one.

Not really any new information, but interesting to read nonetheless.
Something about the way Ken worded his "life is long" quote sounds like he has an EA-takeover in the back of his mind ... sort of a preemptive peace-pipe if the opportunity comes up (the idea being that EA would give Take2 a lot of latitude as part of the takeover deal ... a lot more than Levine got the last time he tossed the SS3 idea to EA).
By the way, any rumors on what secret project he's working on now?

I'm not even sure I would want Ken working on SS3, after the disappointment that was Bioshock.
Yes, it pains me to say that. :(
But with the way the industry is now (particularly in North America), with this obsession to streamline and water-down in order to reach the largest possible audience: I don't know if anyone could successfully pull off a System Shock sequel, any more. Publishers will always be pressing the developer to make compromises.
The only deep, immensely satisfying FPS/RPG title recently released, came from Ukraine/Russia. STALKER. Call me crazy, but I'd feel safer if a SS3 was in the hands of a team like GSC, rather than one of EA's or 2K's dev studios.
Though, frighteningly enough, EA has been improving. EA, of all people. :o

Not as much as it pains Ken to hear it...
With the success/money from Bioshock under his belt he probably could do as he pleases.

You want someone to put your trust in with SS3? Take a look at Ice-Pick Lodge....holy shit! I never heard of these guys before. They're Russian and do some really f**k'd up work that doesn't seem to take well to compromises. Have a look at their latest work, Typrop (translated to "Tension"). If Irrational had too many ppl breathing down their backs I'd give the job to these guys.

Ice-Pick Lodge has great, original and outlandish ideas, but they lack the skills to produce a game out of them. I played Pathologic, as an artistic experiment it was great, as a game it sucked hard.

Cryptochild is the new System Shocker. I started posting on the ttlg forums when I was 12 and I used to troll an insane amount. Now I'm 17 and I can tell that you shouldn't care about people saying rude things to you. The comments people left were actually constructive and you talk like Michael Moore asking that president of General Motors those retarted questions. I even had an alternate nickname back when I thought my username would get banned.
