Regardless of legality issues on FM material or the definition of FM material, I'm more interested in the prospect of System Shock 3 itself at the present moment. I thought maybe someone would have insider info, have scoops or something but then again......anyone can lie and claim to have insider info. So maybe not.

It's also noteworthy that in January of this year, Game Informer did an article entitled 'Top Ten Sequels In Demand' and listed System Shock as #3 for top most demanded sequel, behind Knights of the Old Republic and Shadowrun. They gave each title on the top ten a probability percentage of a sequel happening. They assigned a System Shock sequel (SS3) an 80% probability that it will happen. Apparently, Game Informer is VERY confident that a System Shock 3 is happening, whatever they are basing their information on or whoever their source is. For those interested, the other titles on the list were as follows -
Top Ten Sequels In Demand - Probability Rating
1: Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic, probility: 85%
2: Shadownrun: 45%
3: System Shock: 80%
4: Jedi Knight: 15%
5:X-com 99%
6: Punch-Out!!: 75%
7: Eternal Darkness:Sanity's Requiem: 96%
8: Chrono: 65%
9: Diablo: 80%
10: Chrimson Skies: 75%

P.S. - If you are one of those people who do not want a System Shock 3, DO NOT BOTHER posting in this thread, go read and post in some other thread. I don't want to hear about how you don't want a System Shock 3 because quite frankly, I don't care if you don't want a System Shock 3. If there ever is one, easy solution, DON'T BUY IT. DUH. As for those who do not want a System Shock 3 being made by EA, this thread is not created for ramblings and bitchings about how you don't want EA to create it, it's for a serious discussion of the present whereabouts of System Shock 3, based on all available data.
That's the attitude! You got it all covered perfectly. Aren't you from the insurance sector...? :weird:

So someone is attempting to create their own System Shock 3 as a mod for System Shock 2. See this link -(
http://shock3project.lefora.com/headlines/) http://shock3project.lefora.com/headlines/
Question is, will EA shut them down?
Answer is no, as someone pointed before, it's a SS2 FM, so there's no infringement. It's exactly the same approach as TSP, we heard nothing from anyone over IP or trademarks...
That said I clicked on the link and there's nothing there. Do they even have a story?

96% for Eternal Darkness and 80% for Crimson Skies? Maybe a liiiiitle bit optimistic?

I still think there's a possibility Starbreeze is developing System Shock 3.
See this thread:
(
http://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=119948)
I conversed with a level designer who was hired by Starbreeze for this unannounced project, and while he obviously couldn't outright confirm or deny any hopes for it being System Shock 3, he didn't shoot my hopes down and his replies seemed to have a bit of a smirk in them.
Pure speculation, but until they officially say otherwise, I think it's at least a distinct possibility.

Yes, I have done my own investigation into Project RedLime, highly speculated to be System Shock 3. I investigated Starbreeze Studios. Allow me to reproduce for everyone here my correspondance with Starbreeze Studios representative Robert Nyberg.
Email I originally sent to him -
"Dear Starbreeze Studios & co.,
There has been much speculation about the nature of your recently unveiled project RedLime. However, much of it seems to indicate project RedLime is in fact, System Shock 3. This opinion is so widely held as to have found mention in the Wikipedia article on 'Starbreeze Studios'. See this link - (
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Starbreeze_Studios)
Also, please see the following link -
(
http://www.ps3fanboy.com/2008/02/21/starbreeze-and-ea-team-up-to-bring-back-a-classic)
Anyway, I was wondering. Can you please confirm or deny whether or not Project Redlime is System Shock 3? If it isn't, then you can easily flat out deny it. If it is, then I would expect you to be unable to confirm or deny.
Sincerely,
A starbreeze fan"
The Starbreeze representative responded a day later with the following -
"Hi Joshua,
Thank you for your email and interest in Starbreeze Studios. I can not comment on speculation. As to your reasoning regarding me commenting on this, the simple fact is that I can not comment on any speculation, true or false. Until any further information on RedLime is unveild you can keep your eyes peeled for the new Riddick Game “Assault on Dark Athena”.
Kind regards,
Robert Nyberg"

I don't mean to sound snarky, but what does that contribute to the discussion?
Obviously they can't comment on speculation, and obviously some random fanboy requesting commment on that speculation won't compel them to deviate from their NDAs and planned PR campaigns.
Did you really think he would tell you anything substantial? Or rather, anything at all?
CryptoChild on 1/8/2008 at 18:17
I honestly don't know what he would do but you can see there that there was no confirmation or denial. As for what it contributes or doesn't contribute....maybe nothing, maybe something, the point was that I had investigated Starbreeze.
I posted it because the whole Starbreeze thing is utterly mysterious. I read an interview the president of Starbreeze Studios who said that they had only begun working on Project Redlime in late 2007, when they intially encountered and talked to EA. So whatever they are working on, it only came into production fairly recent. Whereas rumors of System Shock 3 have been around since early 2006. Starbreeze said that information on Project Redlime would soon be forthcoming but the president of the studios said they aren't sure when they want to reveal information about it.
Also, you had the right to ask a level editor and I had a right to ask Starbreeze using the email provided on their website. So what? I didn't call you a fanboy, some people find that offensive. If you don't like my post, you could just as easily skip over it.
Twist on 1/8/2008 at 18:38
I knew this level designer before he was hired by Starbreeze and my communicating with him was pretty casual. I didn't specifically seek him out and I didn't expect him to be able to tell me much.
And if you're posting to a forum dedicated to a game which hasn't seen a release in nearly 10 years, you're probably a fanboy.
I am fanboy, hear me roar. :o You should probably just learn to humbly accept it rather than be insecure about such silly little labels. :thumb:
