Kinda like what happened with MSG 2 where Solid Snake wasn't the playable character... ugly.
Seriously though, Levine already drew up the storyline for System Shock 3. He presented it to EA, and in his "uncouth vulgar baboontascular" way, said "they just don't give a s**t" (sorry I had to bleep the word SHIT for our viewing audience- I'm considerate and cultured!). The game's been shelfed and I'm sure the script is either locked under the vault of copyright bullshit, or it's been scrapped altogether.
Can't say I was too wild about the improbable ending of System Shock 2 anyway. It would have been interesting to see how Levine would have written himself out of that. I have faith in our favorite 'lil potty-mouthed primate tho :p

Well as far as I'm concerned, Bioshock is System Shock 3. I'm having a total blast with it and it's a heluva more novel setting than a typical spaceship/spacestation/spacebase blah blah blah. And Andrew Ryan is a good villain too. Shodan was excellent but after two games I'm tired of that maniacal computer bitch with a speech impediment.

I have replayed SS2 over dozen times and I still love Shodan. :p

Bioshock is for babies!
Don't get me wrong, I love the game. The problem is that there is way too much ammo and the plasmid system has been dumbed down to a stupid level.
Originally you would only be able to change plasmids at few locations so you had to make a real choice. What we have in the finished product is just a second "weapon" system where you can chop and change as much as you like. In the end, apart from melting a little ice and the odd mass electrocution the offensive plasmids are a bit of a let down.
SS's were tough, ammo was sparse and in SS2, each upgrade was a real tough choice and you could really modify your character for your play style.

having recently played Bioshock and HL2 Episode 2 i must say i liked the HL2 settings much more, ... i'm somehow fed up with those tight and catacomp like worlds of spaceships and Rapture. The wide terrain in HL2 and FarCry were so much fun. If only SS3 could play on a lonely planet and give you the opportunities to explore its surface a bit ...

The problem I have with HL2 EP2 is that it looks like your in the open, but your still very limited in where you can go.
The maps look big but you are still very limited to the routes you can take.
One of the things that Far Cry did well was give you an island to explore. You had to get to a location but you could take any path you chose.
I wonder if we'll get any modding tools for Crysis.......

Some game engines have a CPU/RAM/Video card cost for bigger areas that are simply making crawling the FPS to near 0, some engines can't do all that space like others can.

I think the game may come with it. They are almost one in the same, from my understanding.

@Martin Karne: Yeah, I know. At least they try on EP2. The original HL2 had too many pipes, channels, blockages, dead ends, un-jumpable barriers, security fields, cliffs...
All ment to push you in a single direction. You may as well have turned it into an "on rails" light gun game...
@Hemebond: I wish I was better at mods... an SS2 "Themed" mod would be cool.

Hello to all:) That is my first post here. Id like to say that I have been waiting for shock 3 for a long time already but now I really know that without someone' action EA won't even think about it. Ok and that's my question : I know that there was a petition on sshock2.com to make a ss3, and Id like to know what happened with it? Is it finished already? And what are the results of it? And have someone tried to do something (may be to mail EA) to get some answers? I think EA is really st***d company, having such an oppotunity to own the continuation of this masterpiece  and just forget about it!
P.S. I read all the FAQ, so I know the 30-days-long rules etc. I just didnt want to make a new topic.
P.S.S My english is bad. I know it, but at least it is better than my chinese:cheeky:
