I really like the idea behind was black and white. The game itself was a dud for me. Wayyy too much micromanagement. However, what I did like was the way your avatar and the world morphed depending on how good or evil you were.
You could end SS3 like this.
After the big fight or whatever, after the final "naaahhhh"'s been said, you could cut to a flyby of whats left of earth, the moon, etc.
Through this flyby thats been generated depending on how much mess you made and how many humans / cyborgs / mutants you saved, yet get flashes. Log entries from the surviving main players, News reports, video reports to Reb/Dan. All of which selected by how you played the game. If someone gets killed you don't get their logs / reports.
If you go the "mech/cyborg" route, you get a sterile robotic world, all the logs hail the supreme AI and her magnificant victory over the flesh.
If you go Rebbekka / biological, you get a "Garden of eden", with everyone praising the new "goddess of man". You may find that the earth survives as it was, with someone pulling the strings in the background of course :thumb:
If you go a shade of grey you may find:-
A destroyed world populated by robots.
A garden of eden populated by mutants (with a "many worm along for the ride)
Or a garden of eden, tended by cyborgs
All it would take would be 4-5 versions of each log, waited with a value for how destructive/kind you were, if you used bilogical evolution or technological conversion to improve your avatar.
Done right and you could play the game many times with a different result each time........
of course, if you go Rebekka, you get a half smashed cyborg production line suddenly fire up and build a femail humanoid, Que SHODAN laugh...
Go SHODAN, end shot is of a test lab. Inside a stasis chamber is an infant, zoom out to the name and you get "Rebekka - 02". Tommy V/O "She will remeber everything, including SHODANS weakness...."
I might try and write a fanfic of the intro, try and tidy up some ideas

I have to say, I was of the opinion that SS3 shouldn't even be attempted, but I really do like the plot idea cosmic! I sort of agree with Dojinn about wearing SHODAN too thin from overuse though. I think taking parts of both of your ideas could be interesting... keep with the theme of SHODAN coming back to find competing AI interests, but don't necessarily make the enemy SHODAN yet again created from a data wafer that has been found by some scientists. I'm thinking an idea like Triop going overboard after hearing about the Von Braun's troubles... maybe to protect their interests they start dabbling in the R-grade cyber modifications again, but they advanced the technology too far...and somehow this could lead to some sort of catastrophic event where people that used the new enhancements became somehow cognitively connected through the technology. I don't know, sort of like a reverse Many. I don't know, I just think comicnut's is a great idea, but having SHODAN showing up yet again due to careless meddling by humans is the only thing that really hinders it.

Hmmmm, I'm liking it. You could get a "my gods better than your god" fight going.....
I've got some twists in mind. I'll post later with an update

The idea of reports as the endgame, showing the results of your actions, is a woefully under-used technique. I remember it from Fallout, and was really impressed to see that. One time when I had been bad the endgame showed places I had visited as depopulated wastelands, and it immediately made me regret the character's actions. Brilliant.

Me dislikes Shodan another revival.
All she has left is a shuttle and 1/2 cybernetic agents (Rebbeca for certain - she go possessed, but Tommy? Who knows). She may have suffered huge lossess of memory and abilities... how much of "her magnificence" can fit into one cyborg and a shuttle computer?
"Grunt" cracked her open while she was in control of VB and ... BENDING TIME AND SPACE TO HER WILL. Now... he'd step on her like people step on roaches.
No chances for suprise after finishing the game (except for maybe impossible, where skills are uber-expensive) player has lots of hacking and/or psi. Cheking shuttle out with scanners/feeling it up with psi... quick trip to Rickenbaker and firing one rocket... so much for Shodan.
Her chances are on the planet side with remains of Beta Grove and annelid eggs.

Of course, she'd tricked the hacker once and could potentially do so again.

SHODAN is a cunning bitch. She's smarter than to get killed so easily ... which explains she knew she was on the way out as to hatch "Plan B" and implant herself into Rebecca. For all we know the shuttle returns and SHODAN has rendered Tommy unconscious and requests help from Goggles to aid him - maybe she has the ability to morph back into Rebecca, but still in control. I don't think SHODAN would be helpless. She has evolved into something more super-human ... with all the PSI powers at her fingertips. Once Goggles has his back turned - BAM! SHODAN takes control on the Von Braun again and heads towards Earth.
"I told you wouldn't live to see my New World Order ... I meant it, insect!"

Or indeed, poses as Rebecca long enough to reach Earth proper without any fuss. One trip to an information kiosk later ...
